No drilling required. Under your left foot, where your clutch pedal is or should be is a kick panel, where the fuses are. Pull that and the panel under it. Those both are held in place by compression tabs. There is a pass-through panel with a bunch of rubber grommets. Pop one out, run your power wires in a plastic wire loom down below and through the battery box and then connect the wires to your battery, not forgetting to place a fuse on both wires, both inside the cab and at the battery, to prevent a fire. You can also run your coax through the same panel, either to the rear of your cab or to another convenient location.

The wire I used in my 579 is marine grade 8awg. It looks like romex. It's got a protective outer jacket with 2 red/black jacketed conductors inside that. Its beefy but I wanted as much abrasion resistance as possible.

I rarely ever hear any activity on 146.52. I scan that and a few others whenever I am by the radio and almost nothing.

Both 146.520 MHz and 146.550 MHz have activity from time-to-time in my neck of the woods..
