You don't need a tuner with a screwdriver antenna. The antenna itself can be remotely tuned.
The typical 100W HF rig does ~20W on AM. The typical CB, after the "golden screwdriver" treatment, does more than that. You'll have to be careful, though, as your signal will sound a LOT better than theirs...![]()

I took my technician test in December and barely passed it, took the general 5 minutes later and passed it with little trouble I wanted to take the extra but it was getting late So I took it a month later. I was a Technician license holder back when they dropped the code requirement (for tech only) but let my license expire back in 2001. If it helps any, theres a really good guide out there which helped me study. they can be found here: http://www.kb6nu.com/tech-manual/ Basically the author took all of the questions word-for-word and uses them in context making it an easy read that you can actually learn some of the theory from. For me it was better than the ones that have you memorize the questions.
In any event if there is any thing I can answer let me know. -

I plan on building a box that the radio equipment will be mounted in so it will be easy to take out of the truck during time off. So everything will be permanently mounted but at the same time have mobility. It'll be a pain in the bum to have to pull that screw type antenna off every time, but at 400 dollars a pop, I'll suck it up and just do it. haha
If you ever run across the 11m mod for the 7100 don't hesitate to send it my way -
A good site to read is k0bg.com.Razor3 Thanks this. -
