Just started my CDL training. Will be a fleet driver and will have to buy my own CB radio. I've had them in personal vehicles in the past. What make/model should I be looking at? I am told I should consider the 10m radios, but I am super new to the trucking in industry.

Any and all help is appreciated.

I would just get something basic, Cobra 29 or something like that. I am not talking about the new crap, get an older one that is cheap, get it properly aligned and focus on an antenna.

I just saw two Pace CBs and a Johnson 123A for $15 each, the Johnson is a good rig.

A lot of guys are buying the 10/12 meter export radios and then paying extra $$$ to have them converted and realigned for 11 meters. These radios aren't cheap compared to a real CB radio.
You have to be careful because some export radios are AM only, no SSB which can be bad if you decide to use the 10 meter ham band. Cobra 29's are still popular but they have a lot of cold solder joint problems. If you want something similar for around the same money, I always recommend the Uniden pc78ltx because it's built better and more durable than the cobra radios.

I second the Cobra 29. Will you bring ham equipment along ? If so i guess you already have 10 meter and 2 meter and a import 10 meter wouldnt be useful. Besides cb radios dont get much air these days

Are a Novice, What you purchase is personal preference. Cobra aren't bad. You can of coursae spend as much as yiou want. I use my DMR and mt Icom IC-705 Dstar radio alot Dstar so its helpful if you move around the country alot. The DMS allows you to talk through a local repeater via the internet talk around the world on 4 watts. Just depends on what you want. I had my HF radio in here with me for a while but the tarheal antenna system was knid of a pain to keeps up with.

I'm running an RCI 2950DX-6 (6/10/11/12 meter) AM/FM/USB/LSB/CW (Maybe I'll put a straight key on the dash & pound code while I'm driving ;))
Not on 6 since I don't have an antenna for that. Works fine with the twin sticks on the back of the cab. Pulled in Brazil the other day on 10.

I have a Yaesu Dual bander I bought a few years ago for a base station rig but never used it. I plan to install that once I am assigned a truck.

My coworkers tell me that Stryker are good radios as well as President.

I had Cobras in the past when I worked in construction and had to drive a lot.
