I agree.
I guess being we are getting into some of the not recommended uses I can say back in the day when we were trip lease owner operators and pulled company trailers we would use the trolley brake to use up there brakes on the trailer and save our tractor brakes.Dave_in_AZ, Grubby, Need4Speed and 1 other person Thank this. -
Yeah, but if you drove a truck instead if an abortion of a Freightliner, you wouldn't need to figure out a way to keep the handle down.Grubby, Bean Jr. and spyder7723 Thank this.

In addition to what has already been said, on a frameless end dump, using that hand valve while dumping is easier than popping out the red valve, and holds better when product starts exiting the rear of the trailer, too.
Blackshack46 and Grubby Thank this. -
Im only 40 and still got a trailer without spring brakes. Only reason i don't use it for freight is its so darn heavy. They built them stiff back then.

Same with a walking floor. Apply just a little pressure and as you unload the load will push the trailer forward so you get the product in a nice even row.Blackshack46 Thanks this.

That is where gently comes in.
A dab of spray paint on the outside tires of trailer, usually a stripe is enough tells you it's rotating back there.
There is a couple of other goodies you can do with the trolley (What we call the trailer brake applicator handle) valve but I won't get into it here.
If you ever notice the trailers on a mountain downgrade showing just the inside pair of taillights, they are on handvalve only braking at the moment for a while.Need4Speed and Dave_in_AZ Thank this. -

Whatever you do, don't use the trolley valve for a parking brake.
Bean Jr. and Need4Speed Thank this. -
a skidding wheel will pass a rolling wheel. apply brakes at your own peril.
I now see why some of you are in the ditch during snow storms.....Blackshack46, spyder7723, Need4Speed and 2 others Thank this.
