If I have a placard for the rear view mirror of my 55000 pound 45 foot RV Coach, then I will claim that blue spot.
One of my drivers has such a placard. We made limited use of it after my surgery. Which is legal because the placard is assigned to the car, not to the people who are in need of it.
Businesses that are open to the public, all comers in vehicles are required by Code to have a certain designated handicapped spaces set aside.88 Alpha Thanks this. -
Mebee....because the rules say you got to have one.
Always wondered the same.88 Alpha Thanks this. -
There are drivers out here who qualify for and use a handicap placard. Additionally, if a healthy driver takes a passenger (family member, friend, etc) with him and that person has a handicap placard, that placard would be valid in the truck and legally permissible in a handicap spot.

I remember a classmate born without a hand or wrist bone assembly as a baby as formed in the womb. We gave him hell for being different. Until one day he picked that giant rope to the roof of the gym and dared us to get up there.
None of us did. He went up on one hand and change at the top told us why cant we do this with two?
That changed everything that day in his favor. For the rest of his time in that school we fight for him as a team. It's pretty ferocious when a new student tries to tease one hand and the entire cafeteria gets set.
Legs we can buy and fit these days so that should not be a problem.Misty60, Upinsmoke and truckdriver31 Thank this. -
The Handicapped spots are for the mentally handicapped. They always park as close as possible to the building.
I always tell the SUVers that the handicapped parking is right over there.
Seriously... I've seen drivers who have a definite injury. Can't get around easily. But they sure can sit and drive without a problem. They do need those spots.Truckermania Thanks this.
