Handle My Truck He buys the truck, we dispatch, hire driver, etc

yes, the o/p will be hiring the driver. but still if that driver has any accidents or anything else go against the company CSA score, the "investor" has nothing to lose, as THAT truck will be under the o/p authority.

i should also add, who actually pays the driver? the o/p or the investor?

what legal issues will arise in that scenario?

When I first became an o/o l worked for a small company. He had about 12 o/o and 6 company trucks. He had a o/o pass away with a couple year old truck. His wife was older with no real income. My boss hired the drivers snd maintained it alongside his company trucks. He basically paid her a rental fee. It was cheaper than a full maintenance lease and he had more control over the driver because he had hired him directly. That being said it only lasted a couple years because of what other guys have pointed out. She wasn't making enough profit for big ticket repairs. The writing was on the wall that if the engine or trans/rear end went she couldn't fix it. It worked for her for a while because it was basically retirement money and my boss got a decent truck for quite a bit less than payments or leasing one. He wasn't in the position to buy new trucks all the time obviously and if work got slow that truck was the first company truck to sit.

 

I wouldn't do it for this simple reason; unless this gentleman knows about trucking and understand the intricacies then you will forever be explaining why the ROI isn't what HE projected it to be. Just my two cents worth.

 

Is he willing to kick in the cash the months the truck loses money?

 

That wouldn’t bother me as much IF the truck owner was the one that was going to drive the truck. He may have put an ad on Craigslist and wind up hiring the king of boneheads.

 

I would tell him NO.

What does he expect his return is going to be?

You should explain that if he gets 8 to 10%, he is really really lucky.

 

Sounds like the truck owner wants to run power only under your authority. If you are not set up for it, and don't want to really deal with it, I'd simply suggest pointing him to Landstar or Dart. They are set up for it.

You have too much to loose not knowing how this will affect your core business.

 

I am wondering if the induhvidual in question misunderstood what a fleet operator is?
