Well I tell you what I have done today. I spoke with my mechanics and told them I want a detailed report of everytime he comes in. What he says is wrong and what they found. I told them to do their due diligence and make sure he shows them what it is doing. If they cannot recreate the problem with him there, then I want it listed down on the report. No parts are to be ordered whatsoever if there is nothing found to be defective and I want that listed down on the report. This way I can have it documented and sit down with him in a few months and show him in writing how many times he has cried wolf and how much it costs me each time.
Like I said, other than this issue the guy does not complain. The customers like him alot and he does what he is asked when he is told. I just cannot understand him on this one issue. It boggles my mind.

Either ride with him for a day or drive the truck yourself after he writes it up for one of the mystery violations ... If you do not know how to drive you ride with a trusted mechanic and experience the problem (or lack there of) for yourself

Maybe your mechanics don't have enough attention to detail or they get hourly pay and it really doesn't matter to them if the truck breaks. They're still making money.
One time a noticed a slight scraping sound coming from a turbo on one of our acert cats. I wrote it up everyday for a month. Finally I got a hold of a fresh, young mechanic in our shop that had precise attention to detail and thought equipment should be at 100% He pulled the tube off the front of the lower turbo. Sure enough it was hitting the housing. I saved the company how much by being picky?
Another time there was a slight vibration in only the top two gears while pulling hills when heavy. The lower the rpms got; the worse the vibration got. The mechanics looked for this problem for 2 months. Then one weekend a new driver took my truck out and he liked to jam gears. Well he also found the problem I was complaining about. It was a hairline fracture in the yoke on the front diff. The driveshaft came apart, the yoke exploded into shrapnel which blew out the quick release combo valve, the abs valves disappeared, the catwalk ripped in two pieces, the front pinion seal leaked, the air lines to the front drive axle were ripped off. The tow bill back to Denver from Rawlins was epic!
Long stofy short, be grateful you have a driver that cares enough to treat like itwere his own truck. Maybe he just needs some time with the mechanics to learn what to look for. Provided the mechanics don't give him an uncaring attigude.
