i drove for seward from 12/04 to 01/06
i guess things really changed,i know the original owner passed in spring of 2006
it was the best company i ever worked for
of course in my time period they did not have Qualcomms
all we had to do was call in
check call between 8am and 9am
when empty and ready for another load
when loaded and leaving the shipper
none of that qualcomm arrive at shipper bumping dock etc BS
made $41.000 in 2005 with seward
on another note made the biggest mistake leaving them and going to K&B for weekly hometime

I cant even begin to bite and inject my venom into this story. Trucking is not what it was When I was a kid learning from my uncles. We have a local lady here (Albany,NY) with her so called partner who place ad's on craigslist looking for a driver like every 3 months or so saying its a 500.oo a week position out 14 dAys with two days off...... Im like yeah OK... find a professional to pull it for that ,,,,, they do but ,some greenhorn who thinks he/she can get the exp until they realize its a scam. all they want is a seat filler to get their pockets filled.
I would talk to a attorney in your case and like someone already mentioned unless you have stuff documented....they have the upper hand.... thats why todays techonology a cellphone that takes pictures is good. even if im local when i start out I take pictures i document everything on my time shhets even make footnotes on my log sheets,, they dont like it but... its a federal document ,,, they cant rip it up.. cant make me rewrite it. they are the ones screwed not me

i drove for seward in 08 not that bad really had trk 308 newer 379 in really good condition loads were easy for the most part but yes it was slow also but most companies are one thing or the other i believe seward has good intentions but it is a recession as i was reminded by eric there many times.. wish i had stuck it out to be honest as i lost patience after only 4 months they were fair when i quit qnd never put anything negative on my dac. sorry some of you had such a bad experience with them but i did appreciate my chance to drive for them !!

What I am about to type please dont take in offense. Judging by the experience you have as a driver (according to your profile 2 yrs.) you are looking for that perfect company with that perfect job waiting for you. IT AINT GONNA HAPPEN. My question is why would you carry a set of dumb bells, a hockey stick and a pair of roller blades on a truck? TV I can understand, Fridge I can understand. This is not an executive's position. The hrs are long, the job can be hard. As for tricky docks to hit: I take it as a test of my skills. Most customers will help you by blocking off the street for you until you are in if you ask them nicely and treat that customer with respect. As for firing you for a late delivery: rule number one, when you are dispatched on a load that is being picked up late any way "CYA". Another big rule in this industry. I would have sent dispatch a comment on the QC and ask them for a better delivery time and explain to them that the load could not be delivered with that appt time schedule safely or legally. Then I wouldnt accept that load until I received a return message. As for equipment issues. It is your responsibility to do an inspection of your equipment and report all problems immediately. If they refuse to fix it then you have the power to say NO! I DO NOT HAVE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE UNTIL IT IS SAFE TO DO SO.... That is one of the great attributes about CSA2010. It is giving the power of the word NO to the drivers, not the companies. Its giving us the control that we should have had all along.

This is an old thread but the first mistake this driver made was TELLING the company he was quiting! Never tell them this until you are at home and the truck has been cleaned out and you have followed these tips :: http://www.thetruckersreport.com/tr...dvice/102664-i-just-want-walk-away-how-3.html Page 3 post# 21

WHY did he have so much junk in the truck? A MAN with 3 bags of clothing? Ya got to be kidding! Right? The bar bells and toys are disposable along with the TV and fridge but the CB and radio could have been stuffed in the clothing bag! OH here is another tip from me:: http://www.thetruckersreport.com/tr...-drivers/16652-packing-list-for-students.html page 17 post #168 This is about all I keep in the truck except for the CB, Laptop, coffee maker and inverter if not supplied by company. The inverter is boxed and sent by UPS and doesn't cost that much. The coffee maker and fridge can be sold or trashed. The laptop is carry on in my shower bag with things that might not fit in the main bag.

This post goes for you L/P drivers, as yes ,you are only company drivers paying to drive that truck and can be fired just like a "lowly" company driver! But faster as they need that truck back on line to make more money! Don't believe me? Then you havent been reading in here much or very long have you?

In short NEVER announce to a bottom feeder company you are quitting until you are at home and that truck is completely cleaned out including the dirt on the floor and pictures taken of the condition to match the ones you took when that truck was assigned to you!

When clean, send your "LETTER OF INTENT TO TERMINATE EMPLOYMENT" by snail mail (known as The US Postal Service) with a return receipt requested form filled out and then by Quailcomm or whatever this company uses. If by phone (cell phone) hit the record button and keep the file! Pack a weeks worth of clothing and essentials (tooth brush and other stuff) so you can get on the plane, bus or friend back home! Leave the toys home also!

You have some dam good points there. In a way its just like renting an appartment. You gotta take pics with something like a newpaper main page so you can catch the date both when you first get the truck and when you return it.

I remember an appartment tried saying I trashed the place until I sent them before and after pictures with a heading sayin " I hope you like small claims court"

One week later I recieved a full refund on my deposit...

    Thanks for this tip

I agree completely, Always reduce to a minimum when things are rocky. Always leave it clean and take pictures. I have gotten (either a mechanic or shop manager) to sign that the tractor and trailer are being returned clean and in good condition. With no physical damage except for normal wear and tear. I actually got a letter back from IWX truck maintenance (Springfield Office) thanking for returning the tractor and trailer in excellent condition. Talk about surprised.
