Wow.. you've already given me a pretty good image there, Paddington! And it does sound a little rough when you put it like that. But I figure as long as I'm not part of that unkempt crowd and I can maintain my own diet that I should be alright. In the end, isn't it all about who you are?

There's something to complain about in every job. It might not be quite as gross as the smell of piss, but there's always something, right? A lot of you talk about cubicle jobs being something you don't want. Well, I don't want a cubicle job either. They might be tidy and clean work spaces but that doesn't change the fact that they're still cubicles.

Is any of this good logic or am I just being too optimistic here?

paddington had some good points. and I think you have a good idea. a truck stop will allow you to see a few things. go to one - hang out for a while. observe the quality/caliber that is the average truck driver. if that is NOT who you are or want to be - run!!! RUN AWAY!! if you think you can drive a truck without turning into one of those people - sorry, you can't. if you drive a truck, you turn into a truck driver.

I would say if you are going to do it just do it....
You just get to know the pro's and con's and you will be just fine....
The number one thing when you start out is to make sure that you start out with a decent company not a driver mill.....

I disagree ... you are who you are and who you are is how you carry your self and what others perceive you to be...
I.E. dress like a slob you are one.... look sharp guess what you are !

I'm sure I'll turn into a truck driver by sheer nature of driving a truck, but do I have to have the mullet and stench? That's what I'm trying to say.

(Not to say anything bad about mullets.. if that's your thing, cool.. i'm just reflecting on the Paddington post...)

    I'm sure, man.

People are people. There are all kinds of 'em.

I just want to make sure I can stay sane out there, on my own. I guess that's why I started this thread.. I want some kind of real life experience about it first... even if it's just observing...
