To some degree. I definitely won't miss the long days or taking calls at all kinds of weird hours to make stuff happen. I also appreciate the idea of being able to take a vacation and not have to worry about someone losing me business. But, it's more that the new folks made me a hell of an offer, and I'm taking over an underserved market. The opportunity I'm stepping into is significantly higher with significantly less competition. Combining that with better benefits, and it's logically the right call. But I've spent a not insignificant amount of my adult life doing this- longer than my time in Military and law enforcement- and so it's almost a little sad to leave it behind.
Which is not to say that it isn't the right move for me and my family, and that it isn't something I'm extremely excited about.

This is not directed at you but I get the feeling from a lot of brokers I talk to on a regular basis that they think carriers are generally scum. I mean, I don't blame them, many are. But then I think about my freedoms. My phone doesn't ring at night. Or at least I'm not obligated to answer it, even under load. I just drive home when I want a vacation. I don't think twice. I've taken a third of the last year off. Whenever I want to work I look at the boards and usually have work within the hour. And I'm never obligated to solve other people's problems.
To be clear I'm just making a comparison here. So many brokers tell me how they work 24/7 and fight so hard to keep business.
Hopefully your new gig is a little bit less stressful. -
