Happy to be here...!!!

Where to start...

How about back in Southwest Texas as a kid (60's)... High aspirations as a youngster, you bet... My childhood dreams were filled with either being a train conductor or a truck driver, no kidding... No doctor, no lawyer, and no astronaut (which was the going thing then)... Well, the military drug me off in the late 70's, and the oil crisis of the mid 80's kept me from going home (Worked for Tucker Drilling (Shell) before leaving and they were down to 1 rig at the time I got out)... So I found a job working on ship's for a living...

Here it just a few years later, and I'm about 2 1/2 to 3 yrs from retirement and thought it might be a great opportunity to do one of those dream jobs...

So I've been scouring this site trying to learn if it's even financially an option... And like most that are researching in similar position, I'm finding that you can read one thread and there's no way it can be done, then read another and the sky's the limit... Now don't get me wrong, I know it's privacy act stuff and I am not entitled to any of that info, but doggone hard to get a read on whether I should consider this transition...

It boils down to how bad I want to do this I suppose... I recon if it's what you want you make it work...

So, I appreciate the opportunity to join your ranks and hope to jump in from time to time on some of your conversations when there is something I feel I can specifically glean... Until then I will continue to scour in hopes of making the right decisions when it's my turn for school (which I'm almost certain will be the local community college)...

And Chinatown, while I have a passport already, a lot of ports around so I expect TWIC is mandatory... I have a couple to few years to get there so I have to study up on the practice exams here and I also signed up for Trucking Truth's High Road Training program...
