Do you have a back window? Cause I drove a daycab with a back window and i could blind side in one shot no pull ups with it. just being able to look out the little crack between the tractor and trailer made a big difference to me.

Hell I'll open the drivers door and look out back on a sight side if things are tight,.......All in the name of speed,..alds Thanks this. -
Two things to remember when blind siding. 1: you have to be set up right the first time. There is no do-over. If your not just come back around and try it again. 2: use the fish eyes on the right side. Remember that things don't look right. When it looks like you are about to hit something, you got a couple of feet. Other then that it's just practice.
I use to tell all my students. G.O.A.L. is a good thing. There are no points in backing for speed. Just for not hitting anything and getting it in straight. -
OCI, WY Soda ash plant....Flatbed dock designed for 96" not 102"'s....
Same goes with the Gilsonite plant in Bonanza, UT...only it was like backing into a dark cave.... -
3 places stand out for me, 1st is a cappuccino plant in St. Charles, IL when I just started doing box work OTR. The lot has keyholes and car parking in front of the warehouse and shipping docks, it was easier to blindside and less likely to hit a car or those darned keyholes.
Second place was Geospace underground at Independence, MO, I had to request a different door there with a 70 inch sleeper and a 53.
The last place was a meat pack north of Pershing in Chicago, set up for roll door 48feetx96 inches wide. Two swing door 102 inch trailers parked side by side would have the doors rubbing together, and you had to watch the mirrors on the tractor next to your trailer. I put it in 1 space and the dockworker told me most OTR drivers needed 2 adjacent to even attempt it.
Honorable mention goes to the DHL terminal next to O'Hare.Elvenhome21 Thanks this. -

IIRC...at least in Kommifornia...There was only two backing tests....
1) Straight backing;
2) Alley Dock....
Blind-side backing was not recommended.....
On the penalty for GOALing......Pass the friggin' road test....When you're out on your own...do what is safer.....
BTW....
Most CVM examiners don't have a CDL...They have a clipboard, a pen, and a Friday 3:30 "Gotta get home" attitude.... -
Well you did the right thing by getting out and looking. I had a trainer that got pissed every time I GOAL'd no matter what kind of situation it was. He thought that if he was in the pass seat to see the blind side he wouldnt let me hit anything. That is not training it's bottle feeding. Unless it's a simple backing manuever I always use GOAL. Keeps me from getting in trouble. It's certainly not worth being lazy when you can tarnish your record over it. Dont let other drivesr make ya feel rushed either. Turn off the CB and pay attention to your task at hand. It's better to take your time and do it right than to rush and mess things up.
