Thank you guys..
Actually I thought I did. I studied load boards daily, talked to some brokers, talked to other truck drivers.. I really tried to be as prepared I thought I could be.. nothing is ever as easy as you think it's going to be.. my lack of experience is the big thing that stands out as my problem, but you only get experience 1 way, and that's through experience.. I even spent time on here talking to you guys before I bought.. your right about me not doing enough homework, but the flip side to that is I looked at everything I could think to look at.. Thank you! Have a great day!

There are lots of companies advertising for O/O's.
Expand your thinking... Intermodal?... Expediting?
There was a very high market in transport this summer. Not sure what it is right now. Was very well worth deadheading hundreds of miles into the midwest. They had loads with best rates in the country. Couldn't get stuff moving.
EDIT: I just applied with KAG. They're based out of Canton OH. They got work all over the country. They want O/O's. Tanker pays real good. They got non Hazmat also. Just a thought?Last edited: Oct 29, 2017

Don't be afraid to negotiate. Read ALL of @BoyWander's thread. If you are pulling a dry van, bear in mind you are at the bottom of the spot market rates. You will do better to pull reefer or flatbed. Mercer has decent flatbed.
Consider increasing your income by doing anything that involves the Three D's": Dirty, Difficult, or Dangerous. Do you have your Hazmat and Tanker endorsements? If not, then GET THEM.HalpinUout, WesternPlains, Ryan423 and 2 others Thank this. -

Ohio is chock full of loads. Even Military ones too. And a ton by the lakes...
Deadhead should be a small expense around Ohio, I'll be happy to pay it knowing there is money on the table to load.back street slider, SingingWolf, WesternPlains and 1 other person Thank this. -

When I purchased my truck I was told that there will be challenges getting the first few loads. That is probably going to be one of them, the broker dealing with a unknown person or people when they decide to risk a load onto me.
It's a shame it did not work out any further than it did. I had a great tractor and ready to go work with essentially unlimited possibilites. It was time at that period to leave the just being company drivah behind and build a business that would hire people some day.
Im not sure if I will ever see that again in life, there were possibilities and when there is you get to live. Everything else is just marking time and is wasteful.WesternPlains, SingingWolf and Lepton1 Thank this.
