Definitely never swerve. 18Wheeldumptrucker, those were some darn purty skid marks! My hubby was driving for one of the Werner dedicated routes out of Wisconsin this past winter (did his training, stayed for three months after that, then got something better), and he kept his truck upright and out of the ditch the whole winter. I swear we had snow every other day up here this past winter too. They we giving drivers relatively new trucks if not completely new on that route, and one noobie rolled a brand new T6 trying to miss a deer.
Even in my car, I slow down to miss things, but never swerve, unless it's something in the road that will damage my vehicle, but I always slow to a manageable speed first. I had one incident in Wyoming where there was a bunch of us rolling through a construction zone with orange barrels marking the center line. There was one barrel that was bouncing around and was going to be in my way. There was no traffic coming from the other direction, so as soon as I saw the barrel, I was able to move gently to the left just enough to miss it, tagged another barrel and did no damage to my truck. Had there been traffic coming, I would have ended up running over the barrel and ripping up at least my fuel lines possibly, but I wouldn't have moved. The move I did make to the left was like beginning a lane change, and then coming back to the original lane. It was about like moving to avoid a gator in the road.18wheeldumptrucker and Samantha82580 Thank this. -
Well you know putting it into the perspective of the polce departments,
You don't hear as much about abuse in the streets anymore by dept.'s that have cameras in the cars...........it helps protect the civilians and the officers from false accusations.
This is something that I think the insurance companies would push for.
The only problem of course is the cost factor....... -
Hey, 18wheeldumptrucker - my hubby says "Outstanding driver". He's impressed with how straight those marks are. He also says you deserve the Golden Crowbar Award (used to remove the seat from the hind end) for that one. He's home for a couple of days, so I am sharing some of the high points and low points on the forum with him.
18wheeldumptrucker Thanks this. -
