More than likely it's AOBR mode, not ELD.
Which if he's installing now would alone be illegal.
Methinks that is a miscommunication going on. Who knows though. FMCSA has been putting out so many exemptions since the mandate, it could happen.

Since the truck exempt with the 1994 engine it probably don’t matter per mandate what if anything he puts in it. IMHO......

Not sure what you are asking or commenting here. Unlike all the other suppliers making ELDs, we are the only supplier that has both a long history of supplying electronic logging products (40+ years, and 6 million devices worldwide) and truck technology. (we make a lot of the electronic content on the truck you own...)
We have quite a few small fleets that have some trucks that have mechanical injection engines. They want to have ELD's on all the vehicles. Currently we are the only supplier that can do this, and FMCSA has an incentive to allow this to happen, using the best way it can be done economically.1SlowPoker1 Thanks this. -
This is true for the most part. But there are isolated cases of mechanical injection engines built after 1999 that this applies to as well.
