Safety messages are there because someone or several someones did something causing a safety message to be written. It's like the coffee cup saying "caution contents may be hot". Duh no kidding?? Kinda obvious to most but then there are those few that get burned and sue because they just can't fathom why the hot coffee was hot. Lol
Has a safety message ever hit home for you?

If they tend to tailgate the car ahead of them, tell the driver to pretend that it's his wife and kids in the car.

Some times the safety messages mean well, but they come across as hokey or cheesy.
Ice and snow, take it slow.
Driving through town? Don't hammer down.
Don't steal fuel. It's not cool. (a near rhyme but still cheesy)
I'd love to hear one come across the talking QualComm like "Attention all drivers. Remember you're a professional on the road. Don't drive like an idiot." Of course I'm sure the legal department wouldn't allow that to be sent but it drives home a point.
Same thing with "Remember, your actions are a reflection on the company you work for. Do you really want people to think we're careless or inconsiderate?"
Of course some people will think these messages don't apply to them. You'll get that with every company. There's always a few who think their poo don't stink.
Accident and severe weather messages are always helpful! Also messages about major events that weekend so drivers are aware of potential delays or possible road congestion to seek alternate routes. Be it a major construction project that may have part of an interstate closed. Or a big event like Bike Week or SXSW that could have serious interstate back ups so you can plan to avoid that area entirely. -
lol
I was in Toledo Oregon dropping a load and ended up staying overnight at there. Trucks are not allowed in the town of Toledo, I woke up to 16 safety messages that said the same thing. Basically the message was follow the truck route or your dust. lolLast edited: Apr 16, 2011

I used to work a for a small outfit that would send us messages to let us know weather or not a certain set of scales was open or closed and if they we're inspecting trucks that day or not. Only truly useful messages I ever got from them.

Been caught a few times, mostly just on mistakes. But, they always tell me just what they need for me to fix it.
Seems to go against the whole point of a log audit, IMO.
Thing is that the messages go out about 9:30 in the morning. I start my day about 2:00 am, so I am well into that area by then and have been aware of the conditions for hours.
Only safety message that ever really hit home for me, involved me. I got hit by a four wheeler passing me to the right, who crossed over the line and made contact with my tractor. Message the next day involved a modified version of the accident, so that they could get their point of whatever safety thing they were promoting that week.Meltom Thanks this.
