I have no cdl and no experience but am curious if any one has ever got their CDL and went straight out and bought a truck ???
I know , insurance will be high and a lot of other negatives but just curious.
I hear and read so much negative stuff about most companies that makes a person not want to work for anyone.
I am in a position to where I can buy a truck but wondering if anyone has done this.
Looking for any advice , pros and cons !

all i can say is, i have known someone to buy a truck right out of school but he also worked for his dad's company. not as a driver but in the warehouse, and loading/unloading, and went along on trips with his dad.

unless you have similar experience then i'd say no, do not do it. he had "some knowledge" of the business, and his dad could help him along the way. this was about 35 years ago, when we were in school, long before the CDL came.

Buying a truck with no actual experience in the industry is like jumping off of the Golden Gate Bridge to learn how to swim.
Spend a couple of years driving for somebody else before you commit the money and energy it takes to run your own truck.

Years ago, before CDL, it was somewhat common, now likely not very much. Can it be done, sure, under the right circumstances. What is killer now is obtaining insurance and the cost, along with the very few that will be willing to work with you at first. Getting a truck is relatively easy, as is getting your numbers, but getting affordable insurance and profitable work is gonna be a tough nut to crack, at first...

    Dude, don't do it.

I help out some people who fall short and take over a truck or a few in my time and every one of them seems to have the same story, bought the truck, got the license and then thought he/she would make big bucks only to find that they could not afford the insurance/other payments or could not get signed on to a good company to make any real money.

Do us and yourself a big favor, follow the advice of others, get a license (really really easy), go to work - even part time - for a while to get better driving skills and learn the business - then consider it.
