Just wondering what the logistics of it is with limited amount of home time. Do you pretty much need to take a leave of absence?

Not really, its less than ideal but i just bought a house in nov, put offer in on a monday, closed 2 fridays later.

All that first week we were in the back and forth stage and i think i did nearly 3500 miles that week, in to wi to fl and back to in. Not the longest week ive ever done, but its close.

I bought mine between jobs. I quit one job, took a few months off and did the deal then. I wish I didn't. I was never there after I started my new job. I thought something magical was going to happen when I took possession of it, but it just became a magnet for burglars and vandals. The town trouble maker lived right behind me, little did I know until it was too late: another Ozzie and Harriet fantasy up in smoke.

Ah, chinatown raises a good point. if youre looking at it as an investment/house flipping, you're part of the problem, and unless youre going to be trusting everything to contractors/ be a bottom of the barrel flipper, its not really enough time to fix the things that are wrong yourself.

If its to live in, it depends on scope and who you have at home to help when things go wrong. I was lucky, sump pump went bad over christmas break when i was home, my brother could have replaced it if i was otr though

my Mrs and i bought our house long before i got into trucking.

getting home loans for upgrades have never been any issues, the bank sends the home inspector whether you are home or not

you may need a few days off to go in person to the bank, credit union, whatever. things take time, you will be notified when they need you in the office again.

you might want to secure a lawyer that deals in real estate to fully vette (sp?) the home from ANY liens, encumbrances, etc. that may take a day or 2 of time too.

    silverspur and JC1971 Thank this.

That's why I bought in a gated community, to avoid those problems as much as possible.
Have security cameras at home and get an alert if someone gets too close.
Punch a button in my car to open the gate to the community and another on to open the garage door.
That's just the way life is these days in the USA.

A guy in my neighborhood hasn't been home in two years and no one has bothered his home. He's partying in Thailand.

I considered that at one time. Found what I wanted in Southeast Colorado, but didn't follow up on it.
