    Nationwide prepaid coverage with CDMA will use pretty much any of the CDMA contract carriers, as they all horsetrade to give each other nationwide coverage.

    I asked people who should know about unlocking a phone from a network and for CDMA, I have been told it pretty much is better to get a phone from the network you are using.

    My carrier sold quite a chunk of their network to Sprint, but my phone still works there just as well as before when it was a home area. Sprint won't sell me a phone to use where I live.

    Call AT&T support and ask them for the unlock code for your phone. I'm not sure about the exact procedure for an iPhone, but my Samsung asked for the unlock code when I booted it with a T-Mobile SIM in it.

    I had about six months left on my contract when I asked. The code came in a text message.

    Make sure that you will save more than the early termination fee (ETF) will cost you.
