It took me exactly two weeks from the time I inquired about it until I got approved.
I start roadmaster in Columbus Ohio Monday.
I had three prehires, and I already had my written test taken care of. It showed them I was serious.
Good Luck!kickin chicken and Clay13 Thank this. -
I used the WIA program to get my training paid for. Just graduated fri. Top student. I had to take the TABE test, you can google it for study guides. Had a good repor with my case worker, and the process took about a month. I went to Grayson county community college truck driving school. I was impressed that some of the companies that sent recruiters to talk to us actually have their own schools, and they are still trying to recruit from this school knowing that we would not be under contract with them. I think that says alot about the school I went to. The problem is that the industry seems to be down right now, and most of the students in my class are probably going to either swift or werner. I wish I had better options. Oh well, I guess it is time to start paying my dues.
Baack, Clay13 and kickin chicken Thank this. -

US News & World Report is preparing an article about retraining. We would like to hear from anyone who has tried to use WIA or other government programs to get retrained. If you have done so, or tried to do so, and don't mind sharing your experiences, we'd be interested in hearing from you. If you've learned any lessons or have any advice you'd like to pass on, that would be great as well. Kim Clark reachable at KClark AT USNews.com.
