I have a 2019 Kenworth T680 with a TX-12 automated transmission. Does anyone here know what it would cost to take out the automatic and put a 13 speed in? Or is it even worth it?
Hate my automatic

Depending on what is still remaining as far as brackets, hangers, templates(knockouts) in the firewall & floor for all that is needed for a manual transmission. As years go by, more and more cabs are designed for strictly auto.
Dealing with the ECM may also be an obstacle. I gotcha on the auto, hate them myself.Concorde and Drsparkey3 Thank this. -
When i did the transmision swap in my 579 it was $18,000 all in. And that was for a pretty simple like for like with very minor modifications.
With your being an auto and needing the harness, holes cut, holes drilled, brackets mounted, any changes to the drive shaft and flywheel ect. Id guess add a good 50%-75% to that and you would be in the ballpark.Drsparkey3 Thanks this. -
Probably not. I asked our local Kenworth shop about it and while he said the driveline would bolt up and the cab has the spot on the firewall for the clutch pedal and the hole in the floor for the shift tower, the one guy he knew that did it had to rig up a bypass switch just to get the engine to start and it caused other issues. Unplugging all those wiring pigtails would I undoubtedly leave a CEL on all the time. As said already, on these newer trucks the chassis’ electronics is more tailored to the transmission it came with. On the more primitive stuff it was probably a more feasible idea. Even this 2015 T680 I’m driving with a 10 speed automated Fuller Advantage is way too integrated into the rest of the truck. I don’t like it either and is probably the final nail in the coffin as to why I won’t end up buying this truck.
