Get a PDI tune. It will deactivate your IVA's. I was getting 5.8 mpg in a 07 9900i with a 435 accert. The tune gave me 725 hp at the flywheel and bumped me up to 6.5 mpg. I traded my huge undercab muffler/catalytic converter in for a pittsburg power high flow muffler and a fleet airfilter. Now I'm averaging 7 mpg running 65 mph. 10 speed 3.55

my previous truck, had a D12 of 2000, no emissions. I've got even a 9,4 US gallons on IFTA. I bought the Freightshaker with CAT listening to some people. Because of that, I'm punching myself each given morning. I'm looking back to Volvo. All these stories about CAT, solid engine and Freight cheap on parts are just BIG LIES.
Regarding the money I spent on this truck, I think I know about fuel economy. I drove trucks, in other country where I was making 7-800 dollars a month but if I was over the fuel consumption given by the company I should pay the fuel wasted out of my pocket. I never paid a dime for that fuel. If you ever worked in these conditions I would like to talk about aerodynamics. By the way, aerodynamics are too complicated to be understood by somebody who never seen a wind tunnel at work.

I just wanted to report back I had the exhaust manifold leaks fixed via new Full tilt manifold and no change in mpg or performance. Truck got 6.0 for 3 fill ups or 3000 miles and now back to 5.0 - 5.3 mpg. I hope the guy that just started a thread on how to get mpg out of his Accert reads this and saves his money. In fact if I were him I'd go back to the dealer and see if they would trade him into a different truck (Cummins, Detroit) These Cats will put smiles on your faces but nothing in your pocket. I spent $3K Bullydog, $3k roof fairing, $3k for so called better RR tires, $500 flow through mufflers and $2500 for Full tilt manifold and absolutely no difference in fuel economy. I should have listened to my mechanic who has been at it for 30 years and said none of it matters til you take the 2 turbos off and go to 1 but they were (legality) hesitant to do it. Said it is just too much back pressure and the plug is way before the mufflers and after the manifold. I talked with 2 people that had did it and saw no gains but they were getting over 6 mpg before they did it.

We have switched to winter fuels, about 1 mpg lost is almost expected . Between colder thicker air and the winter blend , winter mpgs will slip . Spring your mileage should go back to the 6s your were seeing .

what i use to do was fill filter with howes to prevent dirty fuel hitting the injectors beats burning out starters trying to start dry. somes shops put a air hose in fuel tank sealed with a rag to pressurize tank to aid in dry starting

Wouldn't spinning the engine on a dry filter get a lot of air into the injectors? You'd be pumping on that primer forever to clear that. The shop I used to work at had a fuel reservoir with a filter just before the nozzle for filling filters, never had any substantiated complaints.

I have a 2013 d13 I shift. I have seen 10mpg but in the Midwest with 8k in the box and driving 63mph. Normal 30 day is 7.4-7.6 late spring and thru the fall, that drops to 6.9 gradually as the winter fuel comes in. I am in and out of the east coast canada every week so lots of hills and wind. And yes that's US GALLON. I had a Pete with a C15. MXS. Spent a fortune on it and could only get my summer average to 5.9 winter 5.3. Same runs same hills. The difference In fuel almost makes my payment.

OUCH! That's $12k invested with zero return. Even if you did get it up to 6 mpg, it would have taken about a year just to break even. That's a tough lesson to learn.

    Elroythekid Thanks this.
