Hey Baxter3009, not to hijack from Blinddog but just to let you know, we found out today they are starting a new flex training schedule for glass drivers. And the main reason why is because of the limited glass trainer availability. So they will have you go with a flat bed trainer for your training time (21 days minimum) and them come back to NLR to perform your additional 5 days of glass securement and driver training. This way the new glass drivers won't have to wait so long to get into orientation. Not sure if they are going to implement this fully yet (trial period) or just for a few new drivers and see how well it goes (they have put a lot of time and thought into this). Just thought it was worth passing on.....

Day 2 of orientation. Started at 6:30 and did a few minutes of paperwork. We then did the drug testing (both Urinalysis and Hair) and then saw the nurse for blood pressure check and eye screening. We then headed to go see the doc. After finishing that up went back to the classroom and did all the range of motion tests, bending, squatting, stretching etc.. we then headed upstairs and did the three minute step test, move weights from one bucket to another and a few other lifting tests (just make sure and use the proper technique they explain to you, which is primarily using your legs instead of your back). Then it was off to the training bay (use to be called the barn) and climbed on and off a trailer, did a balance beam, pulled some weights across the floor and then went to the box. The box is about a 5'6" high box on top of the trailer that you have to climb on top of, stand up and then come back down the same way. You do have two tarps on the trailer that you can use to help (if you are vertically challenged) get you on top of the box if needed. You then go over to one of the trucks and do a three point of contact entry and exit (remember to use three points of contact). After completing all of those tasks you wait in the hall for the physical therapist to give you an envelope. You bring this envelope to the instructor and he then informs you if you passed or not. Thank goodness I passed everything. We did have one guy that fell out during this testing phase (and come to find out it was something simple for him to accomplish he just did not listen to how they informed him to complete a task). If you just listen to what they say you should not have any problems.
After lunch, the afternoon was spent with the VP of safety and the VP of Operations. Then our day was completed. Made another quick walmart run and get ready to start at 7:00 am tomorrow morning. Be safe and will pass on more updates tomorrow.

Day 3 of orientation. Not to much exciting stuff to pass on. We spent the day on Hours of Service, Time management, trip planning along with some pre-trip review and a few tests along the way. Curt gave us a review of additional expectations along with averages on miles and pay according to divisions. Make sure and pay attention because you have quizzes along the way on the computer and you must pass them all to move on. If you have any problems they will work with you to try to get you passed this point. But you have to be willing to put forth the effort and study time (a good and positive attitude goes along way). Have a little bit of homework on paper logs (in case the E log system goes down). That is all for now be safe and pass on more updates tomorrow.

Hello all. Sorry I have not given an update the past couple of days it has been real busy. We finally received our official job offers late yesterday afternoon. Several of the drug test results were help up until then so they could not make it official into they came in. But all is good and now I am a Maverick (of course I still have at least 5 weeks of training to go). We did some load securement in the training bays and watched several videos and tests on the computer today. Still have some trip planning to complete for homework tonight so I am about to get started on that. Will pass on some more info when time permits. Until then be safe.

Get a jump on the trip planning homework. Complete it all ASAP, if possible. I was able to get it all done the day it was handed out. Some folks waited until the last minute and they were kind of lost with the help and explanations that were given to them.

Hey guy, just MY opinion. I would do glass over flatbed any day. The load miles are longer, and the pay is ALOT higher than flatbed. Plus, if you do haul a flatbed load, it will be at the higher glass rate.
-
That doesn't even sound like a good idea to me!! You will haul so LITTLE flatbed freight. You NEED TO BE ON A GLASS TRAINER TRUCK!!! I cannot stress the importance of this!!! My opinion, I would wait for a glass trainer.

Hello all. Sorry I have not updated over the past week it has been a crazy one. While performing more securement training last Sunday and this past Monday I received a call from my past employer during our lunch break. They informed me they wanted to bring me back on board and for additional income. I did call and confirm all this info before moving forward with any decision. After everything was verified I had to make a decision. With this employer, it is a local position and I would be home each day. After further discussion with my wife we decided that would be the best option. I can tell you even with being home daily it was not an easy decision. Maverick has been a fantastic company from the start. The training has been top notch and I was looking forward to getting with my trainer and getting on the road after completing all the securement training. If anyone is thinking of Maverick as an option you will not be disappointed with your choice. I cannot say enough positive things about them. I will keep up with all the threads because you never know what king of curveballs life likes to throw your way. Good luck to everyone and thanks to all for there input and feedback.

Greetings Blind Dog, I read and enjoyed most of your posts on Maverick. I do realize they are about a year old but where very informative nonetheless..i am getting ready to graduate and I am deciding between TMC and Maverick.. So I am trying to get the most information i can so i can make as educated a decision as possible.. I guess my first question is are you still with Maverick? if so, are you still as enthused and what are your main likes/dislikes...Also, I am looking into the glass division but to be honest i do not know much about it...it seems like it really challenging, which i like and want, and also seems to pay the most...Can you tell me a little about it...Thank in advance!!!!
