Allllrighty then....on my way to DeWitt, I get a repowered load. Cool, easy money. Had to drive to Gary yard to swap trailers and get my load. Chicago traffic was what you'd think it would be. No problem though, maintain SAFE speed and following distance. Easy peasy. When I got my new load, whoever it was secured the glass tarps with bungies. Oh, I don't think so! So I removed all the bungies and tied the tarp down with rope. Again, easy peasy. Hey, I just got about 45 new bungies, thanks to whoever did that. Anyhow, spent my 10+ at the yard. Drove easy 7 hours and stopped for the night at a service plaza on the Ohio turnpike. I've got about 4 hours to drive tomorrow. The load delivers TUESDAY at 0800. I tried to bump it up, but they're closed on Monday for the holiday. Be safe guys.Stay in the "right" lane.

Not sure if you looked into it, but, the passport card is quicker. You can also request faster processing, usually, get it in about two weeks time.

    What's your problem with bungies?

I use them all the time. I haven't used rope for a couple months now. It wears out my gloves and is a pain to try to keep tight. Once it gets wet it stretches. When you get to the delivery it's as simple as walking down the rail and popping them off. No messing around with zig-zagging the rope back and forth through the rub rail.

I was thinking the same thing...

Bunjees have always been better than rope...always tight, quicker to put on, quicker to take off, wind doesn't wear them down and break them, etc.

I'm well aware that some say not to use them on glass loads, but for the life of me...I just don't buy it.

I know a few old and quite successful glass haulers that will tell you they work just fine...including me.

Is this another one of those "bright ideas" (company policies)?

I'm with you. If you protect the glass properly underneath the tarp the bungies should never come in contact with it. If they do you are doing it wrong.

The other upside to bungies is that if you get 90% of the way through putting a rope on only to realize you hit the wrong D-ring in the middle you have to pull it all off and redo it. With a bungie if you mess up you only have to undo one and it takes 5 seconds to move it.

Honestly if they would teach people how to use bungies properly on glass they wouldn't have any problems.

I helped another newer glass driver tarp his load of steel plates the other night. We went through training in NLR together. He was going to tie down his 2 lumber tarps over 6" of plates using rope. He didn't even have the one steel tarp he was supposed to have.

Yeah I have a passcard coming in the next few weeks, there was an issue with my birth certificate that delayed the processing. Looks like my trainer and I are deadheading from Madison to Spring Hill, Ks to load Tuesday at 0800. Going to Texas so hopefully we can stay a bit more busy this week.

Alright, you asked, I use rope on glass loads because that's the way Maverick says they want it done. Its that simple.

I always used rope. You can get the tarp tighter and like you said that's the way Maverick wants it. What always put a bee under my bonnet was getting a tarp that some jack wagon took all the ropes off to use their bungees.
