I broke traction the other day on wet I-75 south of Cincy goin' up the hill at Florence in overdrive.
Drives kicked out sideways and scared the crap out of the four wheeler I was passin' on the right.
The Ol' Kitty was gettin' spunky.
Did only have a 15 K load on the deck I admit! -
had same problem in maine. stopped at bottom, looked over the hill, flipped "deep reduction", went up in 2nd like a tank. no fear of blowing springs or shackles.

It is harder on the equipment going fast but in SOME types of trucking it's hammer down or go get your 2 checks. I have ruined a new truck in a few months at a job. Not my idea of prof. driving but I did not sign the checks. I powered out an RGN @ 180k on a 12-17% goat trail. Had to Jake in Reverse to the bottom. Put it in low crawled up floored. Yeah that's the way to drive.

Off road, in rough terrain, or slick hard pack, you want to be in a gear that you can climb without spinning. You don't want to be 'bouncing around' in a hard climb...you will break something.

Get it out of gear and start shifting smoothly like normal. If your as heavy and steep as you say it is you'll feel your next lower gear coming to ya!
