Huge chance you are right. Reefer unit plus some paint job and we have new post in reefer thread "Why my reefer can't reach -10"

You can come up with some interesting stories on the run with it. Like you got struck by lightning or got a “hot” load of sail boat fuel.
Or you parked next to someone trying to sleep at a truckstop and that driver decided to shut it off with a flame thrower. Lol!

I'm sure the integrity of the trailer is fine , looks like a thermo king evolution...about a 50k unit new and the trailer is worthless for anything food grade now so its totaled insurance wise .

They'll have a new cooler and fresh paint on it over a couple weeks, and soon it will be behind a white Volvo with a 1099 driver out of Chicago.

Doubtful. If the insulation burned then the liner inside the trailer would be burned or at least warped as well. Probably gonna have to redo the top half of the first 5-10 ft. And trailers are fairly simple, not hard to restore to original structural integrity.
And insurance companies sell literally everything, including completely scorched scrap. It is up to the buyer to make a good decision as to what to use the vehicle for, be it scrap, parts, or repair. There's a reason most insurance auctions are geared primarily towards industry not private buyers.
