Why? They don't ship them from the factory full of water...

You should see some of the wierd stuff I haul.

I'd chain around the axles pulling in opposite directions, it will allow the truck to move up and down on the suspension, but not move forward/backward.

So what your saying is you have always known how to secure anything and everything? Before you got there? Come on, give the guy a break.

The problem with doing that is it will jerk and buck and ride like crap.

That's really the best way to do it tho. If you try to chain from the frame, then it will bouce against the chain causing it to get slack or most likely snap your chain, hook, or pull it thru the spot you chained it. By chaining the axles you take the suspension movement out of the equation and now it is gurranteed to stay hooked. The suspension bouncing will not affect ride of the load since its purpose is to smooth out the shifting and bouncing.

Ever tried to haul a Humvee??? With the 36" of suspension travel it is impossible to hook it from the frame and the d-ring hooks on the bumpers are even worse. From the factory they mandate you hook from the axles (a-arms) to stop from breaking it.

i agree with SHC ive seen guys hook the humvee at the D- rings and trailer hitch but they never stay tight even with spring loaded snap binders. and it looks scary when they hit a bump and it moves all around..

Hooking to the axels keeps it from moving, and as long as height isn't an issue the ride will be fine

A Humvee and a fire truck have nothing in common, so comparing the two is pointless.

They both have a suspension and tires.
