If you were an o/o consider going to Cpx and talking to them about regional driving. Even if you decide you don't want to buy another truck they can pass your name along to other owners and get you driving.
The only job I had in BC worth returning to was doing cross border deliveries for a cpx owner. Pay was hourly, generous and I was home every day.
LTL companies like Clarkes are usually pretty fair to work with. Allot of driving in town though and high stress if your in an area where drivers are pushy.
You could also look at any of the companies that go from lower mainland to the Island. A morning ferry ride, deliver up the island and your back home on the ferry. Off hand I think Thrifty's is great if you have enough driving experience to get an interview.
I agree though that most companies in BC are crazy about the pay they offer for the cost of living there. It is funny that BC is the only Province that puts a "welcome to BC" sign out on the way in but never a "thanks for visiting" sign on the way out. -
I've done the cross border thing and it only taught me two things, I hate Washington, and I hate I-5.
There are a few dump truck companies around here that pay $25 an hour, but the downside is of course, construction sites, and it's all high traffic areas, but on the upside, a guy is home every night.
Going to seriously try and get on with Triton hauling heavy equipment around the lower mainland, the pay is about $28 an hour I believe and all nice equipment. I came from that kind of work and I miss it, my dad does 7 axle work currently so I miss having my own stories to swap instead of feeling like im sitting on the sidelines!
