I like nights for city driving too. Nights suck in the oilfield because of the animal's, being blinded by oncoming headlights and then trying to navigate the lease road maze in the dark but for city driving though I absolutely love night driving.

"You're out in the weather all the time"
Like the oilfield!
"any kind of a screw up usually is blamed on the driver"
I think that's what they call "industry standard"2big, RockinChair and Lav-25 Thank this. -
Getting slow
-
I’ve been pulling a gas can for almost 3 years.
It’s easy money.
Like anything, there’s aspects that suck, but most are easily overcome with some thinking and manners.
You’ll never escape all the stupid there is, but you can avoid most of it.
Does it get boring? Absolutely.
Here’s my solutions…
When i get bored with certain runs, i just ask for other stuff to help keep me on my toes.
Some runs are monotonous, but we drop there multiple times a day, so there’s no getting away from them.
Some runs are spicy…lots of traffic, difficult locations, etc… makes you think about how to safely pull it off.
Some suck…crappy stores that only come up once a month, middle of nowhere, always order too much, water in their tanks, trashed out infrastructure, impossible access…
I wouldn’t trade it for anything.
The money is very good, the office staff is really good, and they can usually find me an extra load when i want one, regardless of how slow things are.
There’s always a night driver that will give one back because they’re tired or whatever.
If you have the desire to do it, gas is fun. -
So let’s see… 100F and sunny your standing in front of a large piece of tinfoil…..the definition of fun.
Around here for company drivers the dirt haulers are getting paid the same or more money per hour than the gas guys.Bret1984 Thanks this. -
What is PFJ paying per hour? Curious how it compares to loves.Bret1984 Thanks this.
-
It will vary -- based on (pretty much) the cost of living where the job is located.
Generally speaking -- Love's will pay better. But the job for Love's will (usually) be harder to get -- as well.

Thanks. Makes sense. I’m in the Houston area. I applied at PFJ about a month ago, haven’t heard anything, still says application is in progress. An opening just popped up for Loves, so will probably take a crack at that too and see what happens.Bret1984 Thanks this.

You are certainly not a "loser".....if you were to get the job with Pilot -- but not with Love's.
Either constitute some of the best gigs in the fuel hauling business.
Both are hourly-paid -- with overtime pay, after 40 hours.
From what I have seen around me in this area -- both run well-kept up equipment, that you can be proud of.
No jalopies -- like with some other (3rd party) fleets.

Yeah, agree on the equipment around here too. Will keep my fingers crossed.
