I haul Milk tanks and it is at least where I am in Michigan a very long hour type of gig...
I haul from Ithica MI to Ohio usually canton or middfield occasionally Indiana. Yes I am home everyday but it’s only 5 or 6 hours. We use the 150 air mile farm exemption so it’s very rare that I run out of hours.
The local guys work just as hard if not harder then I do they will go anywhere from 15 to 17 hours a day farm to plant nonstop 7 days a week. It’s considered to be good if they get 1 day a month off.... They are insane in my book yes they make $2k a week but at what cost..
I work 5 on 3 off and have ample time to do things at home....
My point is it’s a good job and I enjoy what I do BUT you have to be prepared for a major shift in what driving means to you and your family. I make good income with decent home time but it can easily consume you if you don’t watch what your getting into and make demands on what you are willing to do...
For example I refuse to work 7 days a week and I will be home to take care of the family and house. If those demands aren’t met there’s other places to work...
The refer guys work hard schedules and times too we get on each others nerves often but the reality is anything dairy is tight schedules and long days. I’m not trying to dissuade you at all it is a specialty field and well worth getting into but I don’t want to sugar coat it either...
Wish you good luck in your endeavors!
