I don't feel for them either. And I completely agree about less hands in the pot. You just don't use them to gain a contact and try to stab a person in the back. All the while expecting them to pay you. I don't know why guys piss and moan about them, then turn around and run solely off a broker board either.

Because they are lazy and prefer to use the excuse of " well he ripped me off so I can take his customer." Instead of actually being hungry and going finding his own...

If you can spend the time on a load board looking for a load, then spend the time on the phone negotiating with a broker.....-
Could have spent the same time looking for customers and talking with them and getting your own deal.

Business ethics falls under business practices: if you have poor business ethics; you have poor business practices. Ie you aren't willing to do the labor finding your own work, chances are you aren't willing to go the extra mile to keep a customer happy that values the service you provide.

If you get a customer by back dooring someone: how are you gonna lose that customer? By getting back doored.

The thing is the broker didn't rip them off. They agreed to haul it. Just because they said they are all in doesn't mean you have to haul it. I have said it before. A car dealer friend of mine. One who people call a crook, put it best. " I don't #### people, I just put it out there and they #### themselves". Only you can allow yourself to be taken advantage of.

Getting low balled is one thing, but it could also be possible that the hypothetical shipper in question could simply appreciate not having to go through the likes of C.H. Robbingsome all the time to communicate with the trucker he gave his freight to.

Yes, it is entirely possible. Legally though you have to wait on them to approach you. But, how do you know this shipper is going to pay you on time? CH will pay in 48hrs. Also most guys that do this steal the customer and haul it for the same cheap rate they were hauling for the broker. Now, who has truly drove the freight rate down?

A few years ago, I had a regular haul for CH. it was all round trip work. It was a pretty good deal for me. One day the customer, did just as you suggested. Keep in mind I know what CH was getting, and what I was getting. They were making 12% on the load. So, I did some digging into the credit, not the greatest. So, I talked a little more with the shipper. They wanted 45 day terms. Deal breaker. I said no thanks. Continued to do business with CH for another two years.

Firstly, I dont get this "arrogance" thing you guys are talking about...lol...

You are all quick to suggest that I knock on new doors. Well guess what, any door, is a NEW door. I'm NO different than another broker that comes calling to that shipper. Also, to me, Non-compete's are nothing other than "Im screwing you, but dont you dare find out".

I do agree that with doing your due diligence. A little leg work to find out that a shipper is a slow payer is fine...but that also tells me that your money management is not the best either. if you manage cashflow properly, then you will make more with direct shipper - whether you get paid "today" or 45 days from now.

Dont be quick to critique others, yet your own testament is questionable.

I guess y'all the same people who say "it's just trucking"...when you bend over and take it with crappy recievers who dont step up with detention pay...lol
