Well after several phone calls someone told him to "try it" so he picked it up just high enough to back up and set it on the ground. One place ordered it and had it shipped to a processor without checking to see if they can handle one that big. The lift would pick it up but he couldn't turn because the back tires were barely touching the ground. Good thing he had his safety glasses on, that could be dangerous.

i was kinda wondering what is a skidded coil, and a eye to the sky coil and how are they secured?
-
A skidded coil has the eye of the coil looking to the sky. I chain at a angle front and back on the outside of the coil. I use coil pads so it does not damage the coil and the I put chains across the top and use edge guards.mastllc Thanks this.

i actually found a website rkcampf.com that has diagrams that show how to secure coils(shotgun, sucide, eye to the sky, and sitted), loose and bundled, coiled rod and mill rolls.
RW. and Brickhauler Thank this. -
good link mastllc, thanks. I am in KC sitting 7 miles from where I deliver with 2 of them on my trailer. I will be happy to get them off here tomorrow morning. They are only 20" wide and around 4-5 foot tall. Seemed to ride good from Gary IN but I was nervous the whole way down here.

Just started hauling coils myself about two weeks ago.
Some pics of a typical load:

Coils are generally between 10 and 15 thousand each. This load of six is just a bit over 70,000. Heaviest load I've pulled so far is 9 coils at 91,000.
I am a little surprised and concerned to see it mentioned that each coil should have at least three chains on it. I was trained to put two chains on each of the end coils, and one through the middle coils. I have had no problems with that so far....but I will bring this issue up with my boss and see what he has to say. -
Dude, you're lacking some chains on that load ! Scary, really scary..........
volvodriver01 Thanks this. -
If the load totals 70000 pounds he has enough chains on, by law. But if it was me I would still have another chain in the middle coils.
