When I haul coils, I put every chain I have on em. You'll never hear someone standing over an accident scene where the driver lost his load saying "if only he hadn't secured the load so well".

When I hauled 'em other drivers made fun of me for "over securement" but I never wanted or had a coil move. Most coils were 35K or 45' and I used every chain I had.

As long as you two move out of the way so others can get on with life, we don't care if you put 100 chains on a coil.

It's doesn't take much longer to put 10 chains on as opposed to 5 or 6 and it might make all the difference in the world

I would rather see the proper amount, in servicable condition, used as they should be as opposed to some of "oversecurment" I've seen. If you chain it to DOT specs it is oversecured to start with. Two of the biggest problems I see on a regular basis are using chains, binders and straps that should be IN the scrap box not securing it and not knowing the proper use and placement.

That right there is BS! I'll tell you why....

You can put 6 chains on a shotgun coil without them crowding each other, there is no place for the other 4 chains. So while your trying to figure out where to put them so they ain't touching each other the rest of us our done and pulling out.

Now I have no problem with you over securing a load, but at least have some courtesy and move out of every one elses way.

Give Rodzilla the phone number of that mill looking to move those 90,000# singles, and I'll pick you up and we'll watch him chain them. If you put 10 on a 40k would you need 25 on a 90?:biggrin_25524:

    What about a 73k with no chains?:biggrin_2559:

I don't think any of us are making fun of anyone trying to be safe. But you need to realize that 5 chains or 50 they're all attached to the same side rail. If you like overkill great just do like Les mentioned and put on 2 chains and get out of the way. 4 chains on a 40 installed correctly is better than 8 stretched out 10' each direction.
