It would be a 1/2 twist. Through the strap over backward and when you put the twist in it it is the correct way to attach to the trailer. Or maybe you wondered what a 1/4 twist was and I have no idea on that.

You wouldn't happen to have a link for that info would you? I was just perusing the "Latest Rulemakings & Notice" section and didn't find it in any of those listings.

seems like i heard Alabama had an issue with twisted straps once, but that may be ch.19 proof b.s.

Well, I have to wonder, cause I was checking out a site that had straps and it had a "tip" to give them a half twist to minimize movement or something.. and since Autocar says the question has been settled with a clarification, I'd like to check it out and save it if it's available, because I haven't seen it.

If I ever do get questioned about it by DOT, ...well I just believe that a good offense is the best defense.... while being polite about it. :D

In all my years off flatbedding,i never twisted a strap.

A twist will make the strap lose some off it's tension.
If i wanted a strap to have less tension.............i would just not tighten the ratchet as much.

And if a strap "sings" going down the road, any passing LEO will hear it also and know your straps are tight.

Straps were designed to be straight, are we as drivers saying were are smatter then the people who are making them?:biggrin_25511:

Nope, no link, just info passed on to us by our Compliance Department. Perhaps you could ask your Compliance Department. That is what we pay them for.

Every company that has a compliance dept has standards they require their drivers to follow....dosen't mean its DOT required yet some like to tell you that I agree I dont like to twist straps ..... But ...... I did haul a couple of loads from Firestone of that insulation and I put a twist in those ... You ever pull that you will understand why
