I say go for it. Why the fork not? I did. I owned and operated a water well drilling company, that I watched die a slow death, and after almost 25 years I had to pull the plug on my baby that I gave birth to. You’re gonna have to accept the fact that you will not make any money. I’ve ran a full year this year, new er truck new trailers, etc, and I made the payments on the equipment. I don’t need the business to pay my lifestyle or cover any personal expenses. It just has to keep itself alive. I can’t retire, because I’ve worked every day of my life, and I can’t sit still. I am not the golfer type. I am have ing an absolute blast learning a new trade, and growing a business. Major learning curve BTW. I owned many trucks, and low beds, and hauled all my own gear, so driving, and doing the actual work side of the job was no biggie. The major stuff has been all the legal, or admin bullship that you have to do. Getting your authority, insurance, all the regs, 2290’s mcr150’s, IFTA’s, etc. If you can buy a decent truck and trailer, and have a $100k or so, and don’t need to turn a profit, you can run as an s corp and show a loss for a few years, until you get the hang of it. I started on boards this year, and have made a few nice relationships with clients, that’ll throw me some work. You just gotta keep grinding, and also, realize what your costs are. Don’t just take loads to go for a ride next week. Sometimes you don’t even light the truck, the freight doesn’t pay. I’ll catch a lot of ship for this, but so be it. Pm me if you want to know any more details, and not have the cool dude old timers trash talk you on this thread…

oh, and the spelling errors are because this site doesn’t allow potty talk. It’s stuck in the 80’s…

HA HA I am no flat guy but thought about it. I like my dry van so I can be a steering wheel holder. It makes enough money for me right now.

Made lots of corp money but it’s not as great as you would think especially in the banking industry. The first 20 years was peanuts but the last 10 years has been great. I have 2 sizable 401K’s that I could tap into now that I am 55 this year but think the longer I can hold off the better. But after finding out what cobra insurance cost it may take 1 of them just for heath insurance. LOL I also have a traditional retirement.100% of that all the equipment that I listed is paid for free and clear. Skid steer is brand new less than 50 hours. Besides I am a work-a-holic. I working 16-18 hours a day now I don’t know what I would do if I didn’t work.

It’s really hard to say. Some people take to it like fish in water and some people just sink.

Now isn’t a friendly time to start but if you were to succeed then by the time you somewhat know what you’re doing then it’ll be money making time again.

I think some long conversations with the wife is in order. You won’t be home much and she may not take kindly to that.

This is the part that I am not two keen on “you have to put up with more petty BS as a company driver“ I am not a rebel, I understand we all answer to somebody. But I don’t like the Idea of someone controlling my destiny. I read somewhere (maybe here) if you don’t take control of your own destiny and live your own dreams. You will quickly become a part of someone else dreams.
