So I go to leave Sunday and I am driving out of Little Rock down I30 and I am in the center lane listening to the football game on the radio. When I realize I have two big trucks behind me I try to get over to the right lane but I have a four-wheeler matching me speed for speed and a car carrier moving down in that lane fast. The car goes past and the truck wont let me over then this yo-yo tries to take the front of my truck off with the back of his car carrier.I hit the brakes and he starts spewing ######## on the CB man there are times I wonder why I do this. Now granted I shouldn't of been in the center lane doing the speed limit but surely I didn't warrant that.
KJ thanks for the offer but I am a flat-bedder and I like it.I don't think I would like driving a van.As for maverick somebody I think it was gas-hauler in one of the other posts said that if you start with a company that hires a lot of students there are certain risks and that is why they use so many students.I now understand what he means.
I thought I had this sitting all day every Monday and not getting any miles to start the week beat. I get to the consignee Sunday night unload first thing when the gates open Monday morning and get on the board early. So I get on the board first thing just liker plan and they give me a multiple pick up load in Houston. I spend all day driving 75 miles around Houston picking up loads and get zero miles because I am already in Houston and that is all they recognize by the time I finish getting loaded it is 4 pm.I got three hours left I can drive which at rush hour will be how long it will take me to get out of Houston.
So I say screw that I will park at the truck stop at 4 pm while I can find a parking place. I scale out find a hole to back into shut the curtains and crawl in the bunk about three hours go by and I hear air-horns and I think what is going on. I look out the curtains and there is a chunky lot lizard doing a striptease on the back of a flatbed. I hate big city truck-stops.
I finish my 10 hour break and leave at 2 am to be in little rock for a 11 am appointment.I pull all that off without a hitch get to Little Rock still have three hours to drive.I get to the maverick yard and the consignee I just dropped off at is complaining because the shipper didn't put dunnage between the sheets of steel I just delivered. You see the shipper has a great big forklift and they load the steel in 5 plate bundles. The consignee has a little bitty forklift and has to unload sheet by sheet.I have multiple pickups so I couldnt use the 8 boards I have as dunnage. They never said a word to me when I dropped it off. So I spend the rest of the afternoon talking to safety the csr and my fleet-manager about this load and they tell me go home they will give me a load tomorrow. So much for great plans.![]()

Hey Daytona...hubby said that if you are eyes are still burning from that striptease he knows a good eye doctor!
We know have an image that won't leave our mind and we didn't even have to witness it!
Sorry that you seem to keep getting screwed on the miles. Hopefully things will pick up. Could it partly be due to the holidays? I will be here pulling you for you and hoping things get better.
Take care! -
Sassytrucker I could of lived my whole life and not seen that.I am in a rest area just this side of oklahoma in texas.I am picking up a load in dallas at 8 am going to chattanoga to be delivered dec 27th so I guess I am headed for a few days off.will post more when I get home Later

So I am home for the holiday my truck is making another one of those noises again like someone threw a pair of shoes in the dryer.I am scheduled to leave out Wednesday hope I can. Because right now my miles are in the crapper I got a whopping 800 miles last week and a 289.00 check the week before so time are tight for Christmas will have to bank some when things pick up. I knew it would be bad I didn't think it would be this bad.
I spent all morning Monday sitting in the truck waiting for a load and at noon I decide to go to the truck-stop to grab a bite so when do they send me a time sensitive load you guessed it while I was at lunch. On the plus side I had a pickup of some generators from the air base here in little rock so it was cool to be on a military base again made me thinks of the days when I was younger.I also picked up from the docks in Houston last week I have never been on a real working dock before they scan your divers license before they let you in. I wanted to go to the edge and see the water but I didn't want to block traffic to satisfy my curiosity.
I am getting better at backing and just when I think I have it licked I melt down and cant hit the hole #### this is frustrating. So it is off to Chattanooga after Christmas then we will see what happens I have a 500 dollar bonus coming in February and a 1 cent a mile raise.
I almost forgot I got ran off the road in Dallas by another big truck that wandered in my lane it was 6 am and I was passing him and we where going into a curve and he lost track of his trailer and it kept coming over I ended up on the shoulder I have no idea how I didn't hit something I just stayed on the pedal and steered as slow and as straight as I could I knew he just drifted I don't think is was intentional but it happens.Guess thats about it hope you all have a merry Christmas I got to go fix the big screen in the living room all the people are blue and I cant afford a new one right now. -
Merry Christmas Daytona!!! Hope you have a great holiday and a better New Year.
We went through Chattanooga yesterday. There was a 28 mile traffic back up till we got onto I70. Seems like a nice area, but you can keep the traffic LOL.
I hope the miles pick up for you. Jan and Feb are historically the slowest months of the year and with the housing market in the proverbial outhouse, I hope things go well for you. However after having said that, I wouldn't expect miracles. We have been talking about staying out from The day after Christmas till our anniversary in mid February just to get as many miles as we can get. It seems like when you go home, you end up with a bad check the week you go home and return plus it seems to take them a bit to get back in the main stream of runs. I know your situation is different than ours, but we are going to try to take home time less often and just extend the time home a couple of days and maybe take a 34 when needed in the middle (preferably some place fun) if we need a break in the meantime.
As far as the backing goes, I feel your pain. When your running crazy miles, there is no time to really practice backing. I envy those guys that pull up, throw it in reverse and back into spaces I wouldn't even consider on the first try. They make it look so dammed easy LOL. I look for spots where I can pull through or at least do a drivers side back LOL.
Merry Christmas Bro!!!!!! -
I hope things pick up to since I leave to mav on the 30th lol Hopefuly they will pick up after feb. Thats probably when I will be gettin a truck.

Well guys it has been real.I put my trailer in the ditch today.I was in Ft Wayne Ind making a turn on a slick narrow street. The next sound I hear is my trailer slammin into the ditch another tarp box destroyed.
So it is accident macro pictures from fifty angles a tow truck to pull my trailer out of the ditch a destroyed brake cannister and a flat tire.As my trailer is on it side not a single bar moved well I cant drive the darn thing but I can secure like nobodys buisness.
I am pretty sure maverick will can me hell I wouldnt hire me.The fact that my driving skills are deficent is a bitter pill to swallow.I always thought I was a good driver. So now I am stuck in Ft Wayne till monday it is bitter cold up here I dont know how you northern people live up here.I will keep this updated to the bitter end so you have a complete picture yall be safer then me Later -
My condolences Daytona! You have really put your heart into this thing! Keep your head up and things will work out some way or another. Thank you for starting this thread. It has been a very informative thread.
Good Luck! -
sorry about your troubles man. Been following this thread for a while now. If you do get canned, there are probably other carriers that will take you on. Granted they are probably some of the ones you wanted to avoid at the start, but hey, you gotta start somewhere.... again
But if you decide to leave the business, good luck in whatever you do. Being so green when the winter driving started is a tough way to begin so don't be too hard on yourself. -
If you enjoy driving as much as you seem to on here, DO NOT STOP. You can find a way, it will work. You may not get the money (at first) but it will come. Enough time to get the skills up.
I know you are down right now, but keep pushing.
