I paid own way because I didnt know how it would turn out and I dont want to beholden to anyone. At the time maverick moved realy slow in recruiting.Yes I get home somewhat regulary.Getting home means as little as a 34 hour restart some times I am home for three days usally after I was out the week before.I sometimes stay out when vicki is gone since if she isnt home there is no sense in me going home.I will say I avearge one weekend a month so far that I am out but again some of that is my choice they will ask me on friday if I am far from home if I need a swap to get me home.I have never said yes when they asked.I am in georgia today picking up a load heading to waverly ohio due thursday at noon.I am using flying J wifi because my modem is acting up again and since I just paid the bill I know it cant be that.Looking foward to warmer days yall be safe Later

I had the call from Maverick last year. I didn't take it something else came up and not driving. I see the maverick trucks all the time. sounds like they are working you pretty hard. Talked to a TMC guy the other day, he said he made 75k last year been with the company for 6 years, didn't really have anything bad to say. he works on the percentage base pay. I am working just an hour south of louisville KY right now.
I work in business to business sales, going to give it a year or so to see how it goes, I am like you have always wanted to go into trucking. I have learned more from you in this post than from anyone in the past year. I hope it works out for you I admire what you are doing. -
Sorry... we had the run from HE*Land I have not had much time to post for the last week or two. If you want to read about our experiences with Interstate check out the thread Starting School Tomorrow.

Hey Daytona... Sounds like they are keeping you busy at least. I also hate the waiting and I'm so glad to do mostly drop and hook runs. Its much faster and easier. Bumping the dock can take from 2-4 hours UGG! Loading is just as bad... I love preloaded drop and hook runs.
Hang in there on the weather. We were also caught in those storms. Both the big one in the New England area and the one in OH/IN. The storms suck, but I keep telling myself and my wife that the mountains and plains alike will be beautiful and much more fun in the summer/fall... We just have to put in our time. Check out my current post on my thread... we just finished a 7333 mile round-about run.

This was simply an amazing thread. Daytona managed to stay true what was really occuring on the road and not get sidetracked by other distractions or converstations. Bravo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I hope all works out for you in the end. -

OK what a week I have been everywhere.I lost my air-card again I need to get that fixed.
Let see I started the week headed to Jackson Mississippi from there went Danielville Georgia with a load of lumber they gave me a delivery time that wasn't humanly possible so I made them reschedule.
This is when things take a turn for the worse. They give me a load in Georgia with a bad pickup number takes 4 hours to straighten that out.Now I am due in Waverly Ohio the next morning before noon and I am still getting loaded in Georgia at 2 pm.I drive till 10 pm when the roads are so bad in west Virginia that I say screw this I stop for the night. The only thing I like about west Virginia is their travel plazas on the interstate.
The weather clears up the next morning and I make it too Waverly on time. After they have unloaded me they tell me I have damaged boards they show me the damage and write on my bills damage from the forklift driver at the shipper so I have to call safety explain all this to them.
From there they give me a load in Ghent Kentucky a trailer swap sounds easy right HAHaHa wrong. First you have to swap everything off your old trailer then you have to secure and tarp the load you are getting. All they do is put the coil on the trailer and throw a tarp over it so basically you redo everything they do.
The appointment time on this load in murfreesboro tn is unmakable so again I am out of hours so I send them the message that the soonest I can legally be there is 11.00am. I find a truck-stop around 9 pm fuel up and go to sleep At 2 am my phone rings I ignore it because I don't recognize number and a 2 in the morning there is no one I want to talk too. Then my qualcomm beeps I ignore that then it beep again after swearing the appropriate amount of time I look at it they want my hub mileage so that they can pay bill for fuel. I think that they have lost their minds and I feel like I am back in the army where you just work 24/7.
I wake up in the morning still ticked about last night phone call. The weather is bad. It is raining traffic is miserable in Nashville and I show up thirty minutes late. The guy at the consignee tells me it is a hot load and they have been looking for it.My qualcomm beeps why are you late they ask at this point I explode.
I tell them basically that sometimes I am late this ain't like delivering pizza on your motorcycle boy this is a tough gig and I am working 14 hours a day and any time you want your truck back because you think I am goofing off you are welcome to it.
I get no response just my next load it is in Jackson Tenn 174 mile away and it need to be picked up in two hours but they will take me if i am late. They close in two hours please get there as soon as possible. I haven't eaten a thing all-day except peanut butter crackers and diet Dr peppers but I go as fast as my 65 mph truck will take me get there in two hours and five minutes.
I get loaded and without getting to technical this place is a pain no tarps and any other maverick driver will confirm that they are difficult loads to secure. by the time I am done it is 9 pm I am only three hours away from home but once again I am out of hours and dog tired and hungry so I cook some dinner in the microwave and go to sleep in the truck.
When I get up in AM I do short three hour run home spend an hour washing the truck sending in their paperwork changing the air filter and trying to get maintenance to put a new fuel filter in the truck.More work all done for free. Are you beginning to sense my unhappiness with being a company driver.
I love driving it is just the other crap that is wearing me down I think they are trying to see how far they can push me. I am not willing to short my ten hour break for any reason and I think they are trying to get me too. I could be wrong but I will say thing are changing I don't get any open times on my loads everything has an appointment time most of which is either barely makable or unmakable. -
Daytona45,
Why are you not able to 3 normal meals a day? Is your company that demanding?
YOu shouldn't have to sacrifice your health.

wow ... I feel your pain and frustration. Don't blame you a bit. I hope it works out somehow but I believe you will have to make it happen. Play the game but be polite. ??? Just talking, thinking out loud ... Log all the maintenance as "on duty, not driving". When you are out of hours, you can't drive. Can you unplug the qualcom or silence it or anything that might help? I read an article in todays paper about the vice pres of safety at USX is learning to drive a truck, getting his cdl thru schooling and going to drive across country so he can actually know what drivers go thru. I think that is great. All dispatchers could benefit from this but I guess the company prefers them to cheat and push drivers instead. Good luck man!
