I just wanted to say thanks for posting your experiences. I have been doing a lot of research over the past 6 months into the trucking industry, and your thread here has helped more than most. Hope your miles are high, and you are home when you want.

another newbie step,
i got a reply from a trucking app with a company that i am really high on. they told me that i would need my hazmat, doubles and triples endorsements so i went and paid the $89 to the state and the next day drove 60 miles to get hazmat. when i got there i was about 15th in line so i just settled down and waited. an hour later i was next in line and wouldn't you know it... the computer broke down that the ssgt. from homeland security was using! i couldn't believe it! just my luck! anyway, he was really upset and so were the other 20 people behind me. talk about pressure for the guy. 20 peed off truckers, hmmm, not going to be a good day. i pondered leaving and coming back in two days but the gas money was tight so i decided to wait it out. an hour and a half later he got the computer on line again and it took me about 10 minutes to go through the process.
the only thing i am worried about is the fact that i have some back tax issues and i hope that doesn't stop me from getting my hazmat(can't pay irs back if i can't work). i'll let you know what happen in two and one half weeks when i get an answer.

The good news I don't have a tumor growing in my shoulder the bad news I have a loose body and a torn rotator cuff. They want to operate I am still weighing my options enough about my shoulder.
I have been all over Oklahoma and Texas once again.Laredo is a typical border town sure is wild seeing all those big trucks in a little dirt-hole of a town.I got caught in a rainstorm late Thursday night that was so bad at times I couldn't see the end of my hood I wanted to stop but I couldn't figure how to get off the road safely.
The next day I had a guy in a pickup blow his front tire in front of me he was in the hammer lane going 65 on the bridge going over the Arkansas river outside of fort smith he managed to get it over the bridge and off the road safely I put on my four ways and backed off to give him lots of room but people kept trying to pass him on the right so I just drove down the middle of the bridge till the fellow could get it off the bridge I am amazed nobody got hurt except for the rim on his truck.
They tuned up my truck and it is running great. I am driving at 58 mph I pass no one even swift and Jb hunt trucks blow by me. I am a rolling road block. My biggest concern now is that I will create an accident by driving so slowly or that someone will get belligerent with me and want to go toe to toe with me. I don't think maverick realizes that we share the road with the rest off the world and they aren't slowing down one bit they don't care how much fuel costs
But 58 MPH should keep the MPG Nazis off my back I am really sick of hearing about the carbon footprint my truck is leaving.I am not idling my truck at all but with the summer heat coming that wont last.I cant drive slow and tired I will fall into a coma.I cant believe with the price of fuel what it is they haven't put some form of apu in the truck to me that is just plane dumb and poor business practice
I just want to give a brief mention to dangerous places if you don't feel safe somewhere don't stay there it is that simple use some common sense and be aware of your surroundings and you will be fine it ain't that rough out there.
I had a fellow tell me a great joke. Do you know how to tell the flat-bedder in the mens room he is the one who washes his hands before he takes a leak.I have a load going to Marion Ohio it is due on Tuesday at 9.10 am I thought that was an odd time I hope they let me in if i show up at 9.08Yall be safe talk at you later -
Daytona, don't wait to long. You can damage that shoulder worse and lose most of your range of motion.
-
It is to late for that I already have a frozen shoulder thats what started all this. You should see me throw straps. I throw like a girl it aint pretty.I have to do this sidearm thing.
-
Has that been directly caused by your flatbed work? I would hate to see you decide at some future point, to give up on this industry and end
up with a permanent disability from it. I hate doctors too, but get that taken care of soon! This scenario is one of the major reasons I am not
willing to consider flatbeds... not afraid of hard work, but being our age, the body just will not put up with as much long term abuse before
something gives out. -
No it is not from flatbed work I have lived with this shoulder for the last 20 years. I did not know for sure that I had a rotaor cuff tear but I always suspected I did.I was a gym rat most of my years before vicki and driving the big truck.I imagine that the constant exercise and eating right kept it in good shape. Once I hit the road that went the way of the wind.I have to figure out how to balance all that because I dont want to fall apart but working out and eating right on the road is very difficult.

Daytona45, do not give up just yet. Remember Maverick takes care of its drivers and sooner than you know it, you will be back in good condition in no time.

I agree... while there is no good time for surgery, you should get it taken care of before the damage is permanent. As long as the surgeon is a good one and offers a good prognosis for recovery you should really think about getting it done.
Watch your lights in Laredo. They will steal your lights and even your glad hand seals there. Every time I pick up a trailer from there its missing something and usually several things LOL.

Hi Daytona,
I just wanted to thank you for taking the time to create & continue this thread. I've read it all with great interest & have found it very informative. I'm about your age & considering this as a second career. But I'm having a really tough time making the decision. Your thread has helped immensely. Thank you.
If you get the time, l wonder if you can reflect on where you were late last year compared with today & let us know what your thoughts are. Do you think you made the right decisions. Any regrets or anything you'd change? How do you feel about what you're doing now? That sort of thing. That's the kind of thing I'm uneasy about as I consider this change. Do you think owner operator is in your future?
Once again great job & please keep up the thread!! I"m pullin' for you & wish you the best of luck.
