####, I cannot believe what I read! If Mav didn't make it, then who can? I hope you find a better driving position and soon. I was reading your posts when I was thinking about getting into the OTR thing. FWIW I went with Roehl, but am now back home doing the real estate thing again and driving a little local now and then as needed.

    Good luck Mon!

"Glad to hear your still doing some driving."
    Thanks!
I drive for a local tour bus company now and then. Driving a 55 passenger Motor Coach to Hoboken, NJ and back this Friday. Bus drivers get automatics and sleep in motels. I like that! :)

OK guys I am back from my two weeks of soul searching in the Arizona desert.I am done with driving the big truck. With fuel just spiraling thru the roof and all these states passing anti idling legislation I don't think the trucking industry is a good place to be right now. That and the thought of signing a federal document everyday saying that it is true and accurate I just don't think the risk is worth the gamble I will never be a company boy and I ain't going to prison on the chance of getting a load somewhere.

I honestly believe my fall had less to do with me getting canned more so they can make more money with that truck with a driver who will run illegal it was nothing personal just business.I know there are drivers on this site that sing maverick praise some are my friends all I can say if you are going with these guys go with your eyes wide open and document and protect yourself.Driving for a company is like trying on shoes what fits for you may not fit for another.I sent for my dac just want to see what they put on it at this point.

So now I am stuck with a bad shoulder and a worse taste in my mouth.I have yet to receive my last check from maverick.I called they told me I needed to fax them an order number so I did but I have yet to get paid. Right now I am out about a grand considering the fuel they never reimbursed me for plus my final check. All I ever get from them is empty promises. I guess my only recourse will be to get a lawyer and sue them which will probably cost me more then they owe me.I would imagine they will hope that I just fade away.I guess that is how they do business.

I will always say a prayer and keep an eye out for you big truck drivers. Good luck to you be safe and take care.Later

Daytona: Ollie asked me to reply for him, since I am an employer myself. In most states the Dept. of Labor will help an employee collect their last paycheck if it is withheld.

I checked out Arkansas Department of Labor, and you can file a wage claim with them. You are probably also eligible for unemployment. Here is the link.

    http://www.arkansas.gov/labor/divisions/labor_standards_guide.html

We both wish you luck. I think Ollie has reached the same conclusions as you about driving. But he still drools everytime he sees a tricked out Peterbuilt.

If you get a lawyer and have to go after them, consider the issues of the bad shoulder as well.

However, you can add the attorney costs to the amount owed and require them to pay the cost as well.

Daytona, I hated to hear that they cut you lose. I don't think the truck has anything to do with it tho. They say if they can't get drivers in the trucks not to lower standards, get rid of trucks. I am by no means saying that you were low standard. They are my 5th co and by far the best. They were your 1st co and you have nothing to compare them too. Trust me if you had been with other companies and then seen mav you would have a total different outlook right now. I wish you the best in whatever you do. Take care and keep in touch.

    Hey Daytona,

I will really miss your presence here. I think you were extremely honest throughout this process & have done a LOT of people a great service by letting us see the reality of companies like maverick. I know things will work out for you.

With your experience you should be able to go to a union company & get paid by the hour & home more frequently. Even if you only do it for a few more months - you might give it a shot & capitalize on all your experience. From what I've read the atmosphere is notably different - in a good way.

I hope you pursue the $ owed you. If you hire an attorney on an hourly basis you should be able to add that fee to the settlement. An attorney experienced in this area can also advise you how to pursue this through state agencies for no $ out of your pocket.

Maverick has shown its true colors by holding out on you financially - something you clearly do not deserve. There is no excuse for it & I don't care how many companies out there are worse than maverick - doing this is the same nonsense as the worst companies. Running illegally is NOT acceptable & I admire your integrity. I know there are companies out there that won't force you to break the law. I'm hoping to be contacted by one soon. If I can offer you info at that time I'd be happy to do so.

Good luck & keep your chin up. Make your decisions with your mind - not your heart. I know you must be furious right now - even with two weeks of peace & quiet behind you! Go get some good advice & then get all your money back. I wish you all the best.

gp12 you are not even a truck driver. You have no clue what it takes to get this job done. This is not a 9-5 job. Try coming out here and hope you get a good company or you will be one that has bailed from the industry before you even learned the industry.

First of all I have never had any of these problems and maverick has never forced me to do anything illiegal. I have sent them messages before telling them I can not make the drop in that window and they have rescheduled my drop time. What happens to one person does not make the whole co bad. There are always unknown factors to every situation. I like daytona and have met him a few times. I do not know what the deal is with the money they owe him so I can't say anything about it. I do know and he will even tell you that he made several costly mistakes and was maxed out on their point system. The points drop in a year, but he had less than 1 year. Again nothing against him, but he had called me several times prior to this worrying that they were going to let him go. I think that he was so worried about the chance of being let go at the next mistake that it was getting the best of him and actually interferring with his job.

Him being worried I would tell him don't let it get to you. Put it behind you and learn from your mistakes. Don't focus on the past. Learn from it and go on. With him being worried about it for a few months that tells me he knew that he was on thin ice to begin with. I am not trying to put him down, but at the same time the company is the best one that I have found so far. As far as the shoulder he had that problem prior to maverick. He himself had said that he had a bad shoulder. I told him not to put off that surgery because it could get worse and he could lose his range of motion in that shoulder. This is flatbedding. If you are not in shape it will get you in shape, but you have to be 100% to do this job. We don't bump docks and swing doors.
