Never a day unemployed...... Only 3 jobs in my career. One a dump for a friends dad for only a few months. Then on to OTR with west coast operation for a couple of years , then the next 33 years with GSF , til retirement in 2011.

I started working when I was 13 in the summers and have not been without a job since. There are jobs out there, trucking or another industry, if you are willing to work. Anyone who says they can't find a job either isn't looking at all, isn't looking hard enough or they are unwilling to take a job flipping burgers at McDonald's to support their family if need be. If you are a driver, you can EASILY get a job as long as your MVR is clean and you have a clean background. Heck, even with a bad background, you can get a job if enough time has passed.

I agree that people hauling cheap freight drive rates down for everyone. But the same people that haul cheap freight out of Chicago (or anywhere else), are also hauling cheap when they empty out and re-load. Rates out of Chicago go up and down depending on the amount of available trucks and where the load is going. Just like anywhere else.

If I recall correctly, there are trucking companies that do require their applicants and current employees to have a high school diploma or a general equivalency diploma, (GED).
