Try this til you get the floating down.....whatever gear youre in wait til the RPMs drop to 10, barely nudge the clutch to get the trans to slip out of gear, give a very slight tap on the throttle to get the rpms up a bit slide teh shifter down into the next lower gear. Soon you will be able to tap the throttle, slip it outof gear, tap the throttle to raise the rpm slightly and slip it into the next lower gear. dont sweat it it'll come to you. just dont get in a hurry with the shifter or the throttle...treat it soft and gentle and it will be far easier than getting in a hurry and trying to fight it. The truck engine and trans is only gonna do what its gonna do...be patient and soon you will be floating the gears nice and smooth and you wont have to clutch unless starting or stopping. Like someone above said.....its a rythm. get the sound and feel of your truck down and you wont have to look at speeds or rpms at all.

I wish I could float the shift but I'm in the great state of Ga. And when I go take my road test I will have to double clutch up and down though the gears from what I hear they are very strict and are just looking for a reason to fell you I will be glad to get my license and stop stressing over it i will be taking the test in three weeks I'm feeling pretty good about my chances of passing but still have a long to go but thanks for the advice I will give it a try when I don't have an instructor hollering double clutch rev the engine shift turn of the blinker watch your mirrors.

Start practicing by floating up and down your gear shifts. Going up run your rpms up to the high side, for example my cats at 1550-1600, when there pull out into nuetral and ease into the next higher while backing off the fuel pedal. Coming down back off the fuel with the jake (if you hv one ) to the low side of your rpm, again my cats at 1350-1400. this is where practice until it becomes second nature make perfect. Use your left foot on the brake pedal to softly help the rpm back down. Now hold your wheel speed while you shift into nuetral and softlly start upping your rpm with the fuel pedal. Ease your shift stick against the next lowest gear, when your at the right rpm you will feel it want to go in. I hope this will help you, thats how I was taught. Although keep inmind, my way for will not be exactly right, you will have to learn what works for you with the equipment you drive.

sorry for the late post about feet i was holding my grand son and not paying attention to what he was doing

Great information.

When you run into trouble floor them rpms way up there even if your not in the proper area for that gear it will go in
-
Now it will go in gear however the truck will jerk on you. When you down shift and it goes in gear smoothly write down where it when in gear and shoot for that pocket all the time for tht gear. Raising rpms will always makebit go knto gear even if your at the wrong speed for the gear.. but def try to earn where to down shift.. also count in gour head.
