Well this case is now closed.

I went yesterday to the DMV and took the test and passed.

I just have to weight for the backround check and I should be good to go.
oh by the way I had to take the test 2 times.
I was on the 24th question and didn't have any wrong answers and a rain storm came through and the computer shut down and it didn't save my test. I just need one more question and I would have been done.
After I was all done they told me that the finger print machiine was down and that I would have to go to another office to finish up.
This whole ordeal took me 4 hours.

Thanks everyone for all of your appions.

I will keep up to date if I ever see a Haz-Mat Load.

A lot of the hazmat loads are not hazardous to the driver, Like house paint for instance. So where or not its worth it really depends on what it is and where its going.

When we haul hazard load our rate increase so does the drive share. House paint instead of sitting I would take the paint.

$35 flat fee for Hazmat. They just brought the pay back.

I have hauled 2 in the last 6 months. I was offered another a few days ago. I had the hours, but was taking time to get a required course under my belt.

In my short time as a swift driver (only 2 months solo now), I have hauled only one hazmat load: BIC lighters. Got the extra $35 for it, but haven't hauled another since. I ask for them all the time, but because so many swift drivers don't have the endorsement, the company doesn't take on a whole lot of hazmat contracts in comparison to the rest of its business. Since I'm leaving, it wasn't worth it to me. But I'm sure soon enough that I would get more hazmats so eventually, the cost would have paid itself and then after, the rest would be profit.

I was wondering about a load I did the other dday. I pulled a Costco load that showed Hazmat on the paperwork but nothing on QC. I do not have Hazmat and didnt want to turn it down. I did not no this until I picked up load with paperwork that it was Highlighted and showed one pallet of fire extinguishers. SO my question is that really considered a Hazmat load? Also if so and I do not have the endorsement should I still get paid the extra pay? Just wondering/ Thanks

Was it placarded? If it was you could have been in a world of hurt with the DOT.

    So would Swift.

I pulled a load of motor oil the other day. Hazmat yes, and no. It was bottled and packaged and circumvented the rules. In bulk? Hazmat required.

BTW Coke and Pepsi in the right amounts are hazmat. Corrosive! They lobbyed to get a set amount to be non placarded.

BTW diet soda in the right amount has to be labeled "poison!"

    DRINK UP!!!:biggrin_25522:

That's a helluva fine...####! I made the mistake, a couple of months ago, of pulling an empty from one location 150 miles down the road only to find out it was still placarded. I was 100% lucky I didn't get hauled into a scale-houe or pulled over for any reason or I would have been in that same "world of hurt."

So that makes a good point:

ALWAYS, when doing trailer pre-trip, make sure you look at all 4 sides of the trailer to make sure that it is NOT placarded if you're NOT hauling HM materials.

no it wasn't carded, but just made me wonder why it showed hazmat on bills and was highlighted and no mention on QC. It was a dry load with food on it so that me think it wasn't considered hazmat. I was on a tight deadline and didn't worry about it and just went. I guess if it was and i got pulled over I would have fun explaining that one.
