    Hi,

Quick question about the HazMat endorsement in New York.

    Hazardous Material (H) Endorsement
Hazardous Material and Tanker (X) Endorsement

Are the above two endorsements separate (i.e both "H" and "X" show up on a CDL license) or does the "X" endorsement also cover the "H" endorsement and only "X" will appear on a CDL license?

    Directly from the NY website

CDL Class C License with (H) Endorsement Bundle

A Class C Vehicle with an (H) endorsement is one that is not described as Class A or Class B but is used for the transportation of hazardous materials. The Class C CDL with H endorsement is covered in the following sections from the CDL handbook:

    • Section 1 - Introduction
    • Section 2 - Driving Safely
    • Section 3 - Cargo
    • Section 9 - Hazardous Materials

    Tankers and Hazmat (X) Endorsement

An X endorsement is for those who plan on transporting hazardous materials in tanker vehicles. The Class X endorsement and covers the following section from the CDL handbook:

    • Section 8 - Tanker Vehicles
    • Section 9 - Hazardous Materials

So, I would assume by it's reading that H and X are 2 different endorsements... But there is that word... Assume. :biggrin_2559:

Only the X appears after you've passed both the tanker and the hazmat test.

So the (X) will replace both the HazMat (H) and Tanker (N) code on the license?

That is correct...if you also do doubles/triples you'll see a "T", at least in Texas.

Im pulling a hazmat tanker load in a dry Van coast to coast at the moment. Shipper verified I had the "X" endorsement before they would load the trailer with the tote bins.

I had a recruiter try to argue with me telling me that "X" wasn't real. he told me that I should have H and N individually, so therefore I was lying on my application. because that's how they did it on his license (which is an obvious lie, or a dumb state)

If there was any lingering confusion, here's the back of my NY CDL. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1420166135.228260.jpg

I have the X on my CDL as was as the T for doubles/triples.

Had the N and T when I got my permit as I did haz when I tested out for my license so now it's X and T

That is what mine from CT looks like with a "K" restriction for a medical waiver that keeps me Intrastate :biggrin_25510: for the next 3 years.
