I did the same thing. When I took my class A permit I also took tanker, D/T. I had a class B so tanker was added to it and the D/T was put on hold till I passed my state road test for my class A.
Before I went to have my class A license done I took the HAZMAT test so I could get all them crazy letters added to it.

I don't know why WI does the H&N instead of the X. I've had a CDL for over 20 years and it's always been separate. I just renewed my hazmat in July and it's evidently the way WI does it. I remember a long time ago I asked the DMV about it and told them I was driving a propane truck and they said my endorsements were correct.

Perhaps it is because the amount of WI licensed drivers that want to haul hazmat loads on tanker trailers is minimal?

Or maybe it is because they need another excuse to write tickets. Imagine, a cop, or DOT officer pulls over a driver that's hauling gasoline; if they saw just an X on the license, they could write the driver a ticket because he/she doesn't have all the necessary endorsements for that load.
Which begs the question; would I need to hire a Florida ticket lawyer if I am that driver and got that ticket in WI, since I have an X endorsement on my Florida license? :biggrin_2551:
