Started trucking like a month ago with a company that haul’s hazmat. There’s a route we take that doesn’t allow certain hazmat/anything bulk. 6.1 inhalation hazard is one of the hazmats that’s restricted rather it’s bulk or not. Well a couple days ago I got hazmat that was class “8(6.1)” and was said no placards was needed as it was only 100 pounds. 8 is corrosive obviously but the subclass is 6.1? Inhalation hazard? Or just toxic? Usually ANY amount of inhalation hazard is placarded but this load said no placards needed. My dispatch and co workers have no ####ing clue because apparently they never had it or cared enough to worry about it. I avoided the restricted road which added like 2 hours to my day. Was that for no reason? Can anyone confirm??

Class 6 can be poison(placards at 1001lbs) or inhalation hazard(placard at any amount. It would say inhalation hazard on the description.
Always best to verify with the red hazmat guide.Attached Files:

What you have going on there with your “8(6.1)” is the primary risk being corrosive which is table 2, and a table 1 subsidiary risk which is your poison inhalation hazard. If I understand this correctly the question you’re trying to ask is do you have to placard for the subsidiary risk, and while not being entirely sure I would have to say no.
@Scalemaster could probably give us a clear answer next time he’s around.HiramKingWilliams and Feedman Thank this. -
The big problem with that is everyone told me it would need to be placarded if it was actually inhalation hazard and since it wasn’t placarded, you can take it on that restricted road. But my question is why would it say 6.1 if it’s not really inhalation hazard? Can 6.1 be poison/toxic but NOT inhalation hazard?Feedman Thanks this.
