If a bol is marked hazmat do you need an endorsement?i work for a retail company and i do have my endorsement so i understand placarding rules.we haul pool chemicals in consumer commodity packages do i believe this would be orm d.however they insist on marking it a hazmat on the bills.i think that is wrong but you cant tell them anything.

Some levels of hazmat can be transported with out placards. Depending on the quantity of it. And others require placards at any amount.

Look up the hazmat segregation chart to make sure. However the shipper should know this and supply the transporter with placards if you dint have any.

My question is if a dot officer looks at the bill and its marked as hazmat does it open a can of worms.these are consumer commodity packages in one or two pallets mixed with general freight.i believe it should be orm d which does not require placarding.

The commodity is 12.5 percent sodium hypochlorite in one gallon bottles packaged in a case.

Any Hazmat materials is mandatory to be marked on the BOL. I believed it’s anything over 1000 lbs. But regardless, it should be stated.

Ok so you can be marked on bol as hazmat but still not be required to placard if its under 1001 lbs.i believe our freight is orm d and should be marked as such.

All hazmat has to be listed, even if it’s limited quantity packaging which wouldn’t need placards, but that would also have to be stated on the BOL.
