    Greetings, old timers --

A decade ago, I used to post on this forum as a different user. I made some great connections on here. I cannot, for the life of me, remember my old email address or login credentials. Greetings from the San Francisco Bay Area!

Truckers Report gave me so much guidance in my career, that it single-handedly built my career from the ground up. I followed the likes of the fuel haulers and the HAZMAT tanker drivers, to trace their career paths and to imitate their success. I found success in trucking. It literally saved me from myself, and saved my life. I'd be nothing without trucking; and frankly, I'd be nothing without the guidance I found on Truckers Report.

Look, I just want to know one thing: How are the owner operator HAZMAT tanker drivers doing out there? Anybody hauling gasoline locally? I'm interested in starting my own carrier. I have over ten years experience as a driver. In my last role, I was a cryogenic tanker driver.

What are the steps to start sub hauling fuel? I used to be certified at all the local racks. I would be most interested in sub hauling for one of the petroleum carriers in California. I'm wondering what the gross and net figures look like; how to get started; how much it would cost. How to get a foot in the door.

Thanks, and I trust that all of you are having a successful and productive day on the road!

I hear most about trucks leased on to common carriers contracted with consignees in the area.
Penn tank and usher are the ones i see here in the East Tennessee area, though I’m sure there’s others i don’t know about.
In talking with a few of their drivers, pay is pretty consistent 70% of the load to the truck, but you’re covered under their insurance, etc.
What all the fine details are, i cannot speak to, but i do wish you the best of luck in your endeavors.

    Insurance will be the issue.

I don't know if it's gone up but it used to be $5M coverage. Whereas general freight was $750g.

Look in to hauling bio fuel. It's not hazmat unless things have changed in the last 15 years since I last hauled it.

One company i worked for hauled it with no placards or driver endorsements.

If you plan on being the carrier I highly recommend you find a contracted customer and know your cost of operation as close as you can.

If you plan on leasing on to a carrier then interview those in your area. They should be able to give you the numbers and details you need to see if it'll work.

Are you wanting to do ‘power only’ or own truck/trailer, and hire drivers and be a ‘common carrier’?

Someone had to ask! I used to post as Moloko. A reference to a great movie by Stanley Kubrick. Oh, man. I had some fun times posting as Moloko.

I built my entire career based off Truckers Report. I found this board; researched every single thing that I could. Asked as many questions as possible. Went off on as many tangents as possible. Picked the brains of some incredible minds on here. Then, I went into hauling HAZMAT, then cryogenics, then took some time off to complete my education.

And you wanna know what I learned about "getting an education," Diesel Dave? I learned it was all a con and a scam. A ploy designed to separate me from many thousands of dollars. I'm now considered "educated" by the System and can brag about it to Truckers Report. LOL.

I have no shame in being a trucker at heart. It'll always be in my blood.

And I am realizing that I posted this question some two years ago, under the same username. Man, time flies. Can't believe I didn't just go ahead and revive a dead thread.

If you could give some substantive reasons for this, please.
