You wont have a bridge strike if you stay off the shoulder....you won't have a roll-over if you slow down going around curves .... See 0-1 years experience you may not grasp this concept yet but, its not complancy or over confidence, its called being experienced and alert in what you do ... and if it sounds arrogant it is cause with a couple of million miles and 15 years behind the wheel accident free I think I (we) deserve the right to be ....

Driver here in Delaware, OH was just sentenced to 20 years for hitting a pedestrian whith his truck while texting his wife. I have NO sympathy for him. He got what he deserved, while the innocent person didnt deserve a permenent disability. His wife and kids now no longer have the breadwinner at home. His children can only see their daddy at a prison. It only takes one time to ruin many lives. LUCK only lasts so long. The hourglass runs out sooner or later, not when U want it to. Be safe out there drivers.

New to trucking, yes. New to life and the lessons that it teaches - no. Respect that.

I give the kid a pass ... I just think back when I was professor safety wouldn't even talk on the cb, used to back up 5 feet get out and look, pratice SMITH System making sure to look out my mirrors every 5 sec...all the who ha! Now I open the door and stand on the running boards while backing, search for loads and update facebook while driving, im trying to learn how to take a nap at 70 mph but the rumble strips keep interrupting my pratice....

He seems to be a good young driver hopefully we will still have this fourm in a couple of years and throw it back up to him when he tells us how he turned L.A. to NYC in 3 days

i agree with you danny, there ARE times when its relatively safe to text as you describe. but in this case? he was PASSING OR BEING PASSED by a 2nd truck (i forget if he said which one), and while you are inches away from another truck is not one of those times. ive not texted while driving, but i have punched in a few numbers to make a phone call, and that could be the same. wouldnt do it while there was something next to me, when the slightest amount of inattention could let me drift into him.

Out here in LA we are mostly stopped on the freeway so I have plenty of time to text & drive..I just wait for the horn to sound from the truck behind me to signal time to roll..
