a lot of people do have "awesome" driving skills. but id submit that 30 years with a license doesnt make that a given. my mother is 69, has had her license for 50 years, and she is a bad driver at best.
all young people are not bad drivers, but the insurance company uses statistics to tell them there is such a chance that they are that they will be changed a higher rate. and i agree. i play a little game while driving....can i guess the general age/sex of the bad driver? if i see someone being aggressive, its a good bet that they are under 30 and male. if they are too timid, drive too slow, take too much time to merge, and the like (and this can be very dangerous at times too) my bet is always over 60 and/or female. that is not to say i think all old people or all women are bad drivers. but if you take away all the aggressive drivers, the vast majority of bad drivers left are either old or female, or in my mother's case, both.

The truth is we are held by higher standards focusing on the cell phone is the factor that will ultimately send one of us to jail for a accident. Not the changing of the radio station or puttong a cd or messing with the climate controls. It will be the cell phone. And while I rspect the opinion of the veteran truckers that it can be done keep in mind you dont have to be the one at fault...some distracted teenager can slide right under your trailer and get their heads cut off and you didnt have nothing to do with it but you were texting staying in you lane nice and straight doing the speed limit...guess who is trouble now....yea its us always us money hungry lawyers will take care of your money and make sure we get a long stay in prison.
