Thanks for your help. Honestly, I never knew that it was going to be so tough starting out as the small guy hauling one car at a time, not making a lot of money at first. It's really weird because I figured that all of this money would just fall in to my lap the first day I opened my doors for business. I also thought that I wouldn't have to work hard, and that everything would be handed to me. Boy was I wrong. I'm now learning that I am responsible for maintaining my business records, insurances, registrations, medical certification, legal fees, vehicle maintenance, maintenance for a 1-car trailer, for starters. Oh, and I have a child to consider in all of this too. I'm so grateful for your remarks because you probably saved me from making the worst decision of my life.

I can't tell if that was sarcasm or not. But you're welcome. I didn't say anything that wasn't true.
Oh and btw, if you would like advice on how to get into the business with around the same startup cost but actually have a chance of making a living then you're in the right place.Last edited: Jun 8, 2016

I was only half sarcastic. I am thankful for any help I can get but I'm also very aware how difficult this industry is. Driving is what I love (and miss) and I am tired of working for someone else. It's time for a career change and I'm hoping this will be it. I like to call this my "trial phase." I don't owe anyone money for anything at this point so if it doesn't work for me then I can liquidate and walk away at a minimum loss. -
I was in your shoes exactly 4 years ago. Wasted my money and time on a dually and 4 car trailer for 2 years. Thankfully I at least had enough sense to buy a used one. My advice would be starting with a pre EGR tractor and 4-7 car trailer depending on your budget. And unless you have a few customers already, you will take a loss doing enclosed.
